Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg recently gave E! an interview that might make some Twilight fans a little edgy.
She has suggested to them, in short, that she thinks Channing Tatum, star of Step Up and Stop-Loss and upcoming G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra, Dear John, and Public Enemies, would be a perfect Riley for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (to be directed by David Slade).
Rosenberg, who is currently penning the third installment of the book-to-film translation of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series, said “There’s a very big battle at the end with Riley, and I think Channing would do that so well.” “And there are some complexities to that character," she adds. "He really is tragic. He’s a puppet for Victoria . . . So he has to break your heart a little bit at the end when he realizes that she doesn’t want him. Channing could do that beautifully.”
Tatum, who is hailed for his bad-boy persona in his films, has a strong build and a tough exterior, but he is also that sullen soul-searching bit down to a tee.
In Eclipse, Riley is described to be muscular, blonde, and Bella's age. He is also supposed to be quite manipulable, as Rosenberg indicates, to the will of Victoria (played by Rachelle Lefevre).
Given the description, it appears that Tatum would fit the physical bill alright. He is, after all, the strong silent type that a girl could fall in love with, and, if he's anything like the characters he has portrayed in such films as Step Up, there's more to him than just brawn.
Yet, there is some cause for concern with Tatum also. Allowing that he is suitable for the part, one might do well to refer to his up-coming film schedule. It is rather intense. With four films in pre-production (The Stanford Prison Experiment, The Eagle of the Ninth, The Brotherhood of Rose, and Pinkville), Tatum's many obligations might be something to consider.
That's not to say he still couldn't pull it off. Riley is a fairly small (though important) role, and others who have been pitted in similar spots for the third to the Twilight sequel are in for the same. Take Dakota Fanning, for instance. Her character, Jane, makes an all-too-important cameo in the very same sequences of Eclipse, and her schedule is always busy (including, contemporaneously, her plan to work with Kristen Stewart in The Runaways). Yet, this is no obstacle to her involvement with the project, and she will continue her part as Jane throughout the series, we presume.
So, what do you think? Would you like to see Channing Tatum become Riley in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse? Comment below and let us know!

yep!
I think Channing would be an EXCELLENT addition to the cast! I love him in movies and I love the Twilight Saga! What more could a girl ask for!
i dont think he right for the part he is too old for it in the book riley is only a very young man around bellas age so should look that age an baby faced . but i do love this acter i just dont think he right for the part thats all xxx
I love Channing Tatum, but he is flat out too old to play Riley. He'll be nearing 30 when Eclipse is filming.
I think he is perfect!!!! But I am not sure that he would accept the part... and that makes me sad. I guess we will just have to wait and see!
We think Channing would be an EXCELLENT Riley.
and We think it'll make people see just how versatile of an actor he actually is.
Eww no... Please now... He's so stiff and unbelievable....
I think he can pull it off! I mean, he's not middle-aged yet, people, he still looks young!
Plus, he's definitely the kind of guy you'd want to comfort when Victoria betrays him!
Though I have to be honest: I don't remember a character named Riley in the book! But I'll, um, read it again. However, my thoughts won't have changed much :)
I say yes!
no way! he looks too old for that part.
I think he would be perfict . As for him looking to old , movie makeup artists can do almost anything they put there mind to . He has every thing else .
ooohh....that'll be sooo cool. he's hot and he'll make a hott vampire and he's fairly good with fight sequences and what not it should be interesting :D
I think Channing is an amazing actor but isn't who I would cast as Riley.
In his other roles he is always these really strong willed characters. There is something innate about him that exudes confidence.
Riley is not that. So by conclusion he shouldn't be Riley.
i never pictured tatum as riley.
i always pictured some sort of a blonde beauty. someone like draco malfoy only more muscular.
tatum is way to old if u ask me, but id love to see him in something. maybe playing one of the million vampires of breaking dawn, if it gets made lol
O my gosh! I never thought of Channing as Riley but now he definitley should be Riley! I love Channing so much and even though he is almost 30 he could still pull it off and it wouldnt be hard to make him look like a vampire because he is already gorgeous! I say as long as he can look how Stephenie describes Riley in the book then Channing should definitley play the role of Riley! who cares how old he is.
i love him.. but.. he is nothing like riley. he's too confident i feel like and riley is the opposite because victoria manipulates him so easily. tatum is an amazing actor but hes just not the right guy to play riley.
I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!! The only concern is that he would be fighting Seth. Lets see after Seth is casted. If he looks like he could easily kill the actor and not to mention the character, then we have a problem.
I could care less about his age. Peter isn't even close to the age he's playing, and in Hollywood, stars never look their age. He is a good actor and he could tone down the confidence. Plus, realistically, wouldn't you be big headed if you had (or thought you had) the leader of the group, and you were facing a small teenager. I would! So ,in the end, I hope it works out!
I envisioned Riley as much younger than Channing Tatum; perhaps an alternate role would be more apprporiate for him.
I love Channing but I can't see him as Riley. He always plays strong roles and Riley is supposed to be manipulative. It would be interesting to see though.
This makes me sick. The guy is a talentless meat head. The only reason he got into the business is because of his "looks." But I really don't get all the hype, he's not attractive at all.
I have honestly never seen Tatum in action, but I felt compelled to comment because of the mixed reviews from the audience.
Many posts claim that he has played roles that others don't see as equal in temperament to Riley. I don't know if I'm missing anything, but my take on the Riley character is that he is very confident until his heart is indirectly broken by Victoria, via the wits and skill of Edward. In my opinion, a broken heart can make the mightiest of the mighty fall.
Even if my opinion the the Riley character is way off, why not give Tatum the benefit of the doubt? After all, he is an actor. Though his past acting jobs have required a strong personality, I see no reason to believe that he can't wear different personality hats.
i think channing would be a wonderful addition to the cast. i could very easily imagine him as Riley--and what you said about the soul-searching bit it right on too. I would be OVERJOYED to have my 2 of my favorite actors in the same movie.
i dont think he suits the role very well. I imagine Riley to be really fair skinned with very blonde hair. i also imagined him quite short and quite young and níave. I think that Haley-Joel Osment fits the role perfectly. He is an excelent actor and fits perfectly into the role of a newborn who is confused and níave. If you agree please state that you agree with me :) Love All The Twilight Fans Out There <3
i also think that Haley can portray that tortuded vulnrable soul who is easily manipulated. I mean just looking at how well he play David in AI it makes me cry how he puts across the emotions and how he shows David's lonely and deprived side. He was suppossed to be a robot who could feel and he played the robot side and the human side well and adapted easily to the role. Just like in 6th sense.. LV HALEY JOEL OSMENT
I love Channing, but have to agree that unless he really plays the "vulnerable card" he isn't a good fit.
If he takes the role, I hope he really keys into it and doesn't take away from what it is meant to be.
Good luck to whoever signs on!
i think after seeing him play in all the movies that have him portrayed as a "bad boy" which has given him an hard outside exterior, but because he has played so dramatic roles, he could deffinately plull off the character riley prefectly(: looking verry foward to what they will do in the movie eclipse! can't wait!!!
Absolutly not. Riley is supposed to be a boy around Bellas age not some creepy 30 year old!
I actually though Channing Tatum would have made a better Demetri or Felix...
Wow I can not believe that Channing tatum is almost 30, I totally thought he was only like 22 or something! He can definitely pull off this role, he is young enough and a strong enough actor. Though I would like to see him slated in a stronger role, this will be fine. He can do it!
I think that Craig Deering would be better cast for Riley
After hearing someone else say that they thought Craig Deering should play this role, and after I looked him up, I thought he would be perfect for it. I always saw Riley as being smaller, younger, and more manipulable than Channing Tatum is. He's a great actor, but not for this role I don't think. Plus, hundreds of thousands of people already associate Deering with Twilight (did a spoof of it apparently), and he would just be perfect in my opinion. They should consider him.
i do NOT think he would be good for riley!! ive heard about this guy Ross Gill. he would be way better for the part and actually looks bellas age! and is way hotter!! h t t p : / / w w w . m y s p a c e . c o m / 13147858 9
i see him as Riley in that picture above he does not look thirty so obviously he can play a young character i think it not a bad choice
Craig Deering for Riley! Look him up on youtube, in eviliguanaproductions. he's got that vulnerability and the perfect look, plus he can actually act.
i think he would be awesome for riley. he fits the part. everybody needs to quit hating! and to the other girl he CAN act. and is the hottest thing out there.
He is perfect........He can play any part of any body and still make it good. He can play good or bad...He will be perfect for Riley, Go Channing. Hope he gets the part, whould like to see how good he plays this part. Go for Channing. He is Brilliant..
