Recent reports by MTV, the Sun Times and others are attacking Twilight, New Moon, and Little Ashes star Robert Pattinson for his personal hygiene -- as if things couldn't get more ridiculous for the handsome thrust-into-the-spotlight beau.
Bill Zwecker from the Chicago Sun Times writes "On the one hand, there's buzz from some staffers that the British actor's 'typical European aversion of daily showers' has people sticking up their noses in disgust every time they get close enough to get a whiff of him." Despite official denials such as those from co-star Kristen Stewart's people saying (with latent pun) "Hogwash" and "Where do these stories come from?" Zwecker still maintains 'Having listened to all this, I must report several colleagues who did Twilight interviews last fall did claim Pattinson threw off a bit of a stench.' This, Zwecker states beyond the assertion by a "New Moon rep" that "It must really be a slow news day."
The Chicago Sun Times isn't the only "reliable" source of news projecting these foul (pun quite intended) stories upon us.
MTV put out an article today as well. Jocelyn Vena with MTV wrote a story called "Robert Admits to Lazy Hygiene Habits," which, though basically recanting up rogue lines from past interviews of Rob, asserts the same idea. Says Vena, "Robert Pattinson may be too busy working on New Moon to do anything about his reported body odor. But the real story is that Pattinson doesn't seem to care about the whole thing. You see, in an interview recently posted online, Pattinson admitted to regularly letting his hair go unwashed." Citing unidentified crew members, Vena writes:
"Earlier this week, a source 'who works very closely' with Pattinson on the Vancouver set of New Moon revealed the actor's dirty little secret to the world. 'He stinks. I mean, it's awful. He never showers, and it drives people on the set crazy,' the source said of Pattinson's personal hygiene. 'He completely reeks,' a second unidentified crew member added."
I personally think that it is Rob's unbelievably honest candor that has gotten him into trouble, here. Despite what may be the truth behind these allegations, sensationalism and the media go hand in hand. While it is very endearing, in my book, to see Rob tell truths instead of giving reporters feathery side-steps when asked simple questions, it is obviously doing more harm than good with his media attention of late. In an interview on Leno, Robert Pattinson sat next to the lovely Heidi Klum, who told him that he might regret his charming sense of honesty in the long run.
Poor Rob. With the constant media frenzy surrounding him, the grace and dignity with which he addresses both the media (paparazzi aside) and his fans, the constant and ground-breaking success of his current works, and the beautiful photographs that continue to make headway across the globe of his clearly washed hair, that there would be more positive news surfacing from such sources. But alas, this is America, and we do love a scandal (for instance, see my response to attacks on Kristen Stewart). Too bad.

Oh, i wish they would leave him alone now, enough is enough. All of these rumors are "sources close to the film". Ok if you want to talk about someone then you should put your name out there and say what you have to say. Maybe if he does stink then he is trying to keep fans away, maybe to turn them off. I dont care if he smokes, stinks or whatever rumors are coming next, he is a great actor and looking forward to his next films.
So true, Amanda, America loves to dig up dirt on anyone in the spotlight. I could give a rat's - how he smells. He's admitted in the past that he was trying to be funny and make a joke about his personal hygiene and it was blown way out of proportion. Why can't people just leave him alone? He's an actor...he's paid to give us a show, not smell pretty all the time!
Ana and Amanda are right - these reports are atrocious! Rob is a wonderful actor and has so much going for him. Trust the media (except our lovely Twilight Examiner, of course) to make a mountain out of a molehill and take a stab at a man out of pure jealousy.

As far as I know Robert currently doesn't even shoot yet so those "sources" are obviously in the imaginative mind of Ted C who started this whole nonesense. I wished the other sites would simply ignore it. If some American "journalists" and fans don't grasp the concept of sarcasm that's too bad but, IMO, no reason for Robert to change his attitude at all. It's his open nature and wit that makes him stand out in the boring crowd of generic young Hollywood. To change that would be to lose himself. Let them think he stinks, if that's the worse they can come up with, he's one lucky dude.
I love that the best thing that they can come up with is that he smells! Rob is a talented actor and singer, so what is his hair is not completely clean all the time? There are many performing artists who look a lot dirtier and nobody raises any fuss. Poor boy, it is tough being the flavor of the week!
I never leave comments but felt compelled! I agree that it is being reported that he doesn't have to be onset until April - they are shooting Jacob/Bella scenes right now. It was only a matter of time before the press began the negativity - just can't leave people alone! If this is the best they can some up with....good for Rob! Don't worry Rob, we take it for what it is; BS and boredom!
What a shame that a person is attacked for being an honest, vunerable human being. I can't blame Rob for wanting to hide in his home or hotel room to hide from the constant scrutiny. How pathetic are we that a person's hygiene is making news. The fact Britney Spears can make Breaking News alerts should tell me all I need to know about our society.

I agree with you guys, they should just stop picking rob.... dosen`t they have any better think to do or write than someone`s personal hygiene. My advice is that get a life, and give the guy some rest... ok...( sorry if you have some difficulties understand my english, but I`m from finland.)
Firstly I do not believe in rumors, esp when these so called "sources" are as anonymous as these gossip sites loves to claim as their sources. Any story with "someone working on, someone close to, friend/close friend, an insider" and so on are all complete BS IMO. Give me facts and not stupid rumors
Thanks to the author of THIS article though to call these gossip ppl up on their crap. Any wonder this guy get anxiety attacs and goes into hiding as he has done now (apart from preparing for his role that is)? Poor guy, nope I do not believe this one bit and I got no reason to believe it. But I think he is VERY NON Hollywood in his ways and I love that. I hope that never changes.

Rob is completly dazzling!!!!! I love his honesty and his hair. He is himself and that is rare now and days. e is funny and charming and a great actor, so everyone who is freaking out about his "hygiene" needs to take a breath and realize that you are hurting Robs already low self esteem:(

Did anyone else read the articles where Edi and Kellan said that they were going to have some fun with the media? Perhaps, this little rumor is part of their humor? In any case, smelly or not, the line would stretch halfway across the country for a chance to wash Rob's back. I understand that if you want a real stinker, you should look up Matthew McConaughey.

When I saw "Twilight",Iwas totally mesmerized by Robert's beauty.I have a feeling his hygiene is impeccable,but if not I wouldn't even care.I wonder how many men would like to be him and how many women would like to be his.Too many to imagine,I would say.As an actor,he's incredibly talented.I can't wait to see more of him.I hope he'll stand strong against the cruelty celebrities often are subjected to.

I am a big fan of Robs(of course). I am probably not as zealous of a fan as some (or most for that matter), but one none the less. I hardly know anything about him(at least hardly anything that is true) with the exception of the basics name date of birth etc... As I am sure everyone is blatently aware, there is a wealth of information available online about him, but I try not to pay all that much attention to it. I can only surmise that being an actor, and a public figure must be a great burden. I have seen the interviews that he has done and I can only assume they're true. But it seems, to me, that the kind of attention that he gets, and has been getting isn't the sort of lifestyle he would have actually chosen for himself. It seems that he is more of a private person, not at all wanting the kind of attention that hes been getting (especially in these last few months, from the onslaught of teens since Twilight came out). He seems actually quite nervous about it, not at all the kind of reaction one would expect from a movie star. I actually feel really bad for him. I figure he really had no idea what he was getting himself into when he started Twilight. And it seems, at times, that he wishes to be invisible, like any average person in the world. I can only imagine, as a movie star, that he has had to give up quite alot. It must be a great sacrafice to become an overnight sensation as he did. And I'm sure it is quite disconcerting to see his own face plastered all over the place as it is. I know that he chose his lifestyle somwhat, but to me he seems more like he would like nothing more than to just be able to go back to blending in with the general population again and live a normal life. I'm sure that people actually expect him to BE Edward Cullen (not exactly what I would say is an easy thing to do). He is in fact the perfect guy (looks. brains, money, a personality, compassion, empathy, and the ability to commit) and, at least I know, that that is impossible. There is no guy that I know of, that has it all. Every guy (person really) has their own little quirks (all be it some certainly stranger than others), and teenagers (and most adults for that matter) can't seem to get a grasp of that concept. Everybody wants perfection and in the quest to find it so many end up alone and miserable. But I know that those are just the things that make up who that person is. From what I have been able to see, he seems like a pretty desent guy underneath all the glitz and glamour that has been thrust into his lap (although I'm sure some aspects of it all must be nice). As I watch the interviews that I have seen, I have been able to come up some of my own assesments, aside from thinking he is a great guy. And from those assesments, I have come to think that he must be a funny, intelligent, talented (in other ways than acting), sensative guy. I can imagine that being a movie star isn't what it's all cracked up to be and that the preasure must be quite a load to bear. I know that for myself that if I had the chance to become famous that I wouldn't want it. I wouldn't want that kind of preassure. Not to mention to live up to all the expectations of others (my own are almost always too much to bear). I am sure that many people wonder why it is that he is still single, and I figure it's because hes looking for more than just the superficial. There must be a million girls out there willing to give him whatever he'd want but I can tell that he must be looking for something much more meaningful and perminent. For someone who will love and accept him for who he is on the inside not what they expect him to be. Someone who would take him quirks and all, money and fame or not. I could not imagine a world without that one person in life that I could always be myself with. I feel bad that, as a movie star, he doesn't have and may never know that kind of happiness. I write this because I see something more in him than any other actor I have ever seen, on tv or in the movies. He seems more real than they do, more of a real person true to himself, and knowing what it is that he really wants, than what he really has (normalcy). And I wonder if all the sacrifice is worth what he gets in return for those efforts. As I've said there is nothing in this world that could make me give up the absolutly average life that I've got. I am not rich or talented but if giving up what I love and want the most got me fame a fortune I wouldn't take it. Nothing is worth losing my private ordinary life. I would hate having to have to give up my free will to do whatever I wanted, whenever I felt like. I would feel like I was stuck in a cage. Having people always telling me where to go and what to do and how to do it. He seems fairly eager to be what people want him to be, but are also miserable at the same time because he thinks hes not good enough. The most desent people in the world are the ones who are decent but cannot admit or accept that fact themselves. I think that I would be quite upset if he didn't finish out the series on screen but is it all worthwhile in the end?............... I know this post may never be read by him, but I do hope that by some miracle it does find him, and find him well. I wish nothing but the best for him in life, and I hope that someday he finds everything in life that he is looking for.

I feel for Rob with all this gossip about his personal hygiene. That's what it is...personal. One of the writers mentioned that Rob is a private person, I also believe that, and so all this attention to put him in public eye isn't what he likes. I think he received more than he bargained for when he signed on for Twilight. I truly hope he completes the series, but he could only take so much crap from the media (rumors, gossip and paparazzi). He truly is a gifted person (writes, sings and acts). I haven't seen a person of his caliber who is so well mannered, charming and intelligent handle himself so well in public. The special part of Rob is that he doesn't think he is anybody special...very humble. One last thing, it doesn't matter about his hygiene.

Kellan Lutz did mention once in a interview, that he and Edi were doing pranks on the paparazzi. Since the paparazzi is following the actors, they decided to give the media something to laugh about. So why couldn't this be also a prank from Robert?

I'm sure by now Rob has read the articles attacking his personal hygiene, and he's probably laughing his ass off about them! Maybe he doesn't shower everyday, but saying that he "NEVER" showers is a stretch. Even Reese Witherspoon has admitted to not showering everyday. I know I've skipped a shower or two in my lifetime! Big f-in deal!

I'm British. I know what a shower is for, as do most of my fellow Brits. Whoever started this rumour about Rob, seems to be very ill informed. I wouldn't trust anything they said. If they can't find anything more useful to be discussing as a journalist, then I would suggest they find another job because whether Robert Pattinson has had a shower or not is really not that gripping in the world news scheme of things.
