2009: The year of 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon'

'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' - Summit Ent.

For Twilight fans at least, the year 2009 was invariably the year of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Of course, in the beginning, there was still a fair amount of Twilight excitement lingering, what with fans continuing to see the film in theaters (or, let's be honest, on the internet) time and time again and DVD release parties across the country. Yet, the principle attention-grabber in our world was New Moon.

At first, it was casting. There were quite a few roles to fill for New Moon, and we anxiously waited for those announcements to trickle down the pike. It started with Bronson Pelletier, who was rumored to have scored a part in the wolfpack. Then there was Dakota Fanning, who her co-stars were supporting for the part of "Jane." Then a few photos of the current wolfpack out and about led to even more rumors. Finally, the announcement came out and it was time to inspect. At first, everyone was pretty skeptical about the selections. When you have literary characters whose make-up becomes so ingrained in your own minds, theirs become difficult shoes to fill. So, we worried that Jamie Campbell Bower was too young for the part of Caius or that Michael Sheen wasn't old enough . . . etc. This, in turn, led to discussions about what scenes, quotes, and details absolutely had to be in the film. Whether fans were complaining or not, the excitement was still there. The movie was on its way.

So when the announcement came down in the spring that production was kicking off, things got really interesting. On-set photographs from various days of shooting surfaced, interviews with the cast started to come out here and there, and everyone looked toward Italy and how they were going to handle one of the collective favorite moments from the story. Of course, a few set pictures (thanks to the Twilight fan community on location) set everyone's mind at ease, as yellow Porsches, red capes, and, well, a touching embrace between Bella and Edward were witnessed from across the very large pond.

Shortly thereafter, the first teaser for the film was released. It was watched once, twice, three . . . let's just say countless times by each and every one of us. It was the growl heard 'round the world. On the same occasion as the teaser's release, the MTV Movie Awards, the Twilight cast was raking in awards - to the extent that the event is rightfully referred to as the 2009 Twilight Movie Awards.

At that point, filming was complete. Though the "big three" would be scattering across the country to film three different summer pictures, the world would still be watching them. Daily, information and photographs from the set of one of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, or Taylor Lautner's movies (Remember Me, The Runaways, and Valentine's Day respectively) would come about - to the point, mind you, that at least one of the films was practically revealed in total (thank goodness for indoor shoots, eh?) before our eyes.

In August, though, Vancouver was poppin' with Twilight stars once more as they got to work on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. While there were still paparazzi photos from the area once in a while, the on-set experience differed greatly from New Moon. Thus, the atmosphere was a bit unchanged in the fandom as New Moon's theatrical release neared. A full trailer, quite a few TV spots, unbelievable press and globe-trotting for the cast, and so many still frame images (primarily stemming from the Official Companion) later, the New Moon premiere was upon us.

There were some who camped out for days and others who relaxed in their PJs to catch it on MySpace. Nevertheless, most Twilight fans watched as the cast for New Moon trekked down the red carpet, one by one, into what was the first screening of the film for many of them. Soon enough, the film would be released, and Twilight fans would make their ultimate mark on film society with historical opening night numbers and a stellar showing at the box office. Even those who'd never uttered the word Twilight had it on the brain as a consequence of New Moon's opening (for better or for worse).

A few weeks later, and everyone's beginning to look forward to the DVD release. Nearly the entire year - to this day - held The Twilight Saga: New Moon as a focal point for Twilight fans. It was exciting, nerve-wracking at times, and completely overwhelming at others, but the mood was New Moon from start to finish. As the year comes to a close, one can't help but remember all of the fun we had in anticipation.

With The Twilight Saga: Eclipse right around the corner, 2010 looks to be pretty good for Twilight fans as well . . .

as silly as it sounds, my favorite part was the mtv movie awards trailer premiere. i haven't watched the movie awards since the 1990's but tuned in and dvr'd the whole thing. i woke up my husband with my shrieking and squealing during the trailer and kristen and rob's almost kiss...watched it about 20 times until he finally ripped the remote from my hand and said ENOUGH!

When the bootleg photos from Volterra trickled onto you tube. I remember back in, I guess June, seeing the images of Bella and Edward's reunion, and saying to myself "this film is in good and loving hands" :)

We still want this one on the big screen. The DVD release had better be quick!!!

It would still be making a few million a week if the theaters had not pretty much yanked it. Last week New Moon still sat at #5 in the rankings. A whole group of us were going to go see it together on Christmas night after the family stuff concluded or during the holiday while we were all together and we found ONE showing at 10:30 pm on any day PERIOD within 50 miles of Annapolis MD. We are not happy at all. Whats with this???? This is just one more example of the industry trying to downgrade one of the most highest grossing films. This to try to encourage better takes for others films still lagging behind expected revenues. SO WHEN THEY STATE THAT NEW MOON IS NOW AT THE BOTTOM IN THE RANKINGS YOU KNOW WHY...ITS NOT EVEN BEING SHOWN AND WHERE IT IS BEING SHOWN IT AT AN CRAZY HOUR FOR MOST TO ATTEND.

My favorite moment was reading the note from Chris Weitz about him being the director for the film. When I read that note that talked about how he wanted to keep the movie as close to the book as possible, I knew the film was in good hands.

WELL,I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I WASN'T SO EXCITED WHEN THE FIRST TRAILER CAME OUT,BUT WHEN I WATCHED THE ONE AT THE MTV AWARDS,I WAS JUST SHOCKED!I COULDN'T SPEAK!I LOVED THE FACT THAT THERE WAS MORE EDWARD IN THE FILM AT LAST!I'D SAY THAT THE BEST MOMMENT WAS WHEN I FIRST SAW THE MOVIE,BUT I WAS SO SHOCKED AGAIN,THAT I DON'T REMEMBER A LOT,JUST THAT WHEN EVERYBODY FIRST SAW EDWARD STARTED SCREAM-ME TOO AND THAT WHEN EDWARD WAS READY TO PROPOSE BELLA,WHAT WAS HE WAITING FOR?,MY HEART WAS BEATING SO QUICKLY,I JUST COULDN'T STAND IT,THESE TEN SECONDS,I WAS STANDING ONMY FEET-LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THE ROOM-SHOUTING'SAY IT,GO ON,SAY IT,MARRY ME!!!'.of course i went to see the movie again and again, cause like i said i could remember just nothing except these two things!!!

I think, for me, the excitement really began to build after the MTV Movie Awards. There was the reveal of the first trailer, which made me squee! Then there were all the Rob and Kristen moments, with the best one being the almost-kiss. They have such great chemistry that it could make me forget that Edward is hardly in New Moon and I looked forward to it still. Their chemistry as Edward and Bella helped me through the Edward-less moments and enjoy the Bella scenes (which were so good by the way) until their reunion towards the end. It was all worth it!!

My favorite part was hearing from visitors and Vancouverites (is that a word?) who saw the filming locations and met the actors. However, the size and fervor of the fandom grew so quickly that by the time Eclipse was filmed, fans had little access to the filming or the actors :(

The best part is when Bella goes to Italy for Edward to not display both the sun and kiss passionately and Edward says he had to leave, also part of the vote, obviously where Edward asks her to be his wife

My mother nearly killed me because I woke her up in the middle of the night after I watched the MTV Movie Awards... I just sqealed the whole time... and in my time zone it was like 4 o'clock and the next days was school... but I was so happy that I watched it! And I have to say that I wasn't even tired the next day no matter how often I watched the trailer... a friend of mine said I'm TwiHigh...

Ans I love New Moon. Especially the scene in Volterra. I just miss the part when Bella wakes up after that... It's so sweet in the book and in the movie there's notthing like this...

I can't wait for "Eclipse" and "Remember me"!

I agree with al my fellow Twilight junkies, the saga is like a drug and I am impatiently awaiting my next fix after comming down from the high of New Moon! I just with Stephanie Meyers would write MORE books. I don't want the story to end after Breaking Dawn:(

my favorite part was absolutely when Bella and Jacob were in the kitchen and he said Quileute to her before they almost kissed (another high point in the movie). "Kwop kilawtley" is now my favorite New Moon movie quote ever. but also part of my vote is the perfect ending to the movie. i loved that they just left us hanging. i was so mad they did it that way until i remembered that it happened that way in the book. then i was fine with it. all in all, i loved the whole movie. i've seen it 18 times.

Favorite part? Ok. Bella was being an idiot and fell off the motorcycle and Jacob said "You're bleeding" and like a lighting flash, off came his shirt. It was so quick that many of the girls in the audience (including myself) let out gasps of amazement. I then had to spend most of the movie convincing my mother why I felt bad for thinking Taylor Lautner is gorgeous. To this day, she still doesn't believe he's only 17.

omg.... the midnight showing of NEW MOON was so awesome..... me and my friends were so excited tht we were counting down to the minutes til new moon was coming out..... wen we got to the theatre we couldnt stay still... at 12 we were so excited but then the movie didnt come on.... everyone was confused. we found out the film had some technical difficulties.... it took the ppl 30 mins to fix it.... once the movie everyone started screaming.... it was so funny wen i first saw edward in the movie.... i actually had to hold myself to the seat. wen edward said he didnt want bella anymore.... i started crying.... i brought tissues cuz i knew tht i would....i cried again wen edward told bella tht he still loved her at the end..... the best night of my life. the next day... or technically a couple of hours later.... me and my friends went to see the movie again....it was so much better the 2nd time... i tried not to cry but i couldnt help it.... i will nvr forget the awesome experience..... <3

Uh!! Just ONE scene?!! haha :D
I think the scene in Bella's room, when Jake tries to tell her that he's a wolf, is very emotional and realistic. Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart are just one of the best actors in the world. So I would pick that scene as my favorite one!!
