Singles in their twenties are all about choices. IPods give you thousands of songs, the Internet brings the world to your finger tips in seconds, and Twitter and Facebook let you talk to hundreds of friends at the same time. Knowing there are so many choices, the first question with dating becomes, "how do we capture the attention of a twentysomething?"
"If you want to impress someone, be impressed by them." Relationship expert, and author of "Find Love Fast," Patrick Wanis, PhD has advice to leaving a lasting first impression.
Singles usually meet in 3 areas: face to face, like a bar type setting, online through social sites or dating sites, and some meet over the phone through text messages. Wanis explains how you hold the attention and leave that person wanting more.
Face to Face: Be interested in what the other person is saying. Guys are usually the worst when it comes to talking about their looks, career and money, but Wanis says talking about yourself will not impress. Instead, ask about the other person's interests and accomplishments, listen, and then make a comment.
Online: "Inject personality, a sense of humor and sincerity in whatever you're doing." Wanis says if you're dating online, you have to speak about yourself more than you would face to face. He says write something like, 'my favorite past time is ____, what's yours?' to keep the other person engaged.
Text Message: "Make it light, make it funny, don't make it flippant."
The only trouble with text messages, you only have 160 characters to be witty and memorable. So here are a few simple texts from www.messaging.newmobilemedia.com to get you started:
- If barbie is so popular....then y do u have 2 buy her friends?
- I intend to live forever- so far so good
- Some say the glass is half empty, Some say the glass is half full, I say "are you gonna drink that?"
