'The Star Wars Holiday Special' or 'May the farce be with you'

Another holiday season is upon us. Another reason to talk about (or not) "The Star Wars Holiday Special," one of the worst -- if not the worst holiday special of all time.

What you say you haven't seen it? Part 1 is above., from YouTube. The rest of it is there, too.

It originally aired on Nov. 17, 1978 and it was ridiculous from the opening scenes. The cast looks terrible  -- well, not the robots, -- but everyone else, looks horrible and everyone looks like they'd rather be anywhere else. The infamous and unlucky guest stars were Bea Arthur, Art Carney, Jefferson Starship, Diahann Carroll and Harvey Korman ... in drag?

And then there's Chewbacca's family. A dad named Itchy? A son named Lumpy?

There is, however, a historic angle to the special for "Star Trek" fans. It was the introduction, albeit in animated form, of Boba Fett.

The ridiculous story line has Chewbacca trying to get home for something called Life Day.

Obviously, it's never been released on video (or DVD)  -- George Lucas supposedly hates it --  though blurry tapes (like the one seen in the YouTube clip) have been passed around for years.

Would this ever show up on DVD? Not likely. At least not if Harrison Ford has anything to say about it. See the very funny clip below from Conan O'Brien's old late night show.

Would an online petition get this released? Mercy ... let's hope not. There is bad TV -- and there's this.
