Emma Watson in Ballet Shoes - DVD

Emma Watson in Ballet Shoes

Unless you want to count her adding her voice as Princess Pea to the animated film The Tale of Despereaux, Ballet Shoes is the only film Emma Watson has made that is not related to the Harry Potter series.

Filmed in 2007, it was a BBC TV movie.

You’ll see a different Emma here – she dances, throws a hissy or two and shows a range of emotions not ordinarily seen in Potter movies.

To stay true to the novel upon which it is based, Emma had to become a platinum blonde, which required having her hair bleached twice.

She also gets an opportunity to wear bright, red lipstick.

Females will enjoy the film more than men. If the title of a movie includes the word “ballet” and the cast is primarily female, we’re talking chick flick.

To my knowledge, Ballet Shoes has not been shown on American television. It is available through Netflix, Blockbuster, Amazon.com and other outlets.

I like chick flicks. I give this one 8 out of 10.

Here is the BBC description of the movie:

“An unusual explorer named Gum (Richard Griffiths) and his kindly niece (Emily Fox) adopt three orphans - Pauline (Emma Watson), Petrova (Yasmin Paige) and Peggy (Lucy Boynton) – and raise them as sisters in 1930s London.

“But when Gum doesn’t return from one of his adventures, the girls must fend for themselves.

“Together, they nurture their respective acting, aviation and ballet dreams in this charming adaptation of the Noel Streatfeild novel.”
