Rock Slyde, a new independent film from first time feature writer/director Chris Dowling boasts an impressive cast of television veterans.
Starring Patrick Warburton (CBS' Rules of Engagement) as the titular hero, the movie is a parody of old-school film noirs. It is about a "down and out detective (Warburton) who engages in a turf-war with an upstart quasi-religious cult." The movie co-stars Seinfeld legend Jason Alexander, Sober House's Andy Dick, Rena Sofer (NCIS), Eric Roberts (Heroes) and Lea Thompson (once-sitcom star from Caroline in the City).
"We put a great team together, raised some money, put in some of our own, and made this fun little comedy," Producer Jason Manns told Examiner via email. Manns and Dowling have some mutual friends who are current "golden boys" for The CW network in Supernatural's Jensen Ackles and Life Unexpected's Kristoffer Polaha, but they didn't just call on favors from friends to make this film like they did a few years ago when working on a short. "We surprised even ourselves with the cast we were able to get!"
"I'd suggest seeing it," Manns stressed, "because it's funny and...interesting to see what some newbies can do with literally one percent of a Hollywood comedy budget!”
Rock Slyde is available for download right now on iTunes and is listed as "coming soon" on Netflix. It is also available on some on-demand services, such as DirecTV and Dish Network. Check your local listings!
