The LA Times is reporting that another new Batman animated DVD is in the works based on a 2005 fan favorite story in which the titular hero fights yet another vigilante, Red Hood, who "doesn't mind cleaning up Gotham by leaving dead bodies in his wake." Normally this isn't the kind of thing that a TV Insider would report, except two very special (and very popular!) television stars are attached to voice characters.
Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson, How I Met Your Mother) will voice Nightwing, and Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester, Supernatural) will voice Red Hood himself. Assumedly Ackles will be bringing more of the deep bass he has perfected as a gun-slinging demon-hunter to this role who many will inherently cast off as the villain. Though many fans will be disappointed these men aren't pulling on tights and muscle-hugging body armor to play the roles in a live action film this time around, they will inherently lend a new level of authenticity to a long-told tale. And they will undoubtedly bring in a whole new audience while doing so.
The script has been penned by Judd Winick, who rote the original 2005 comic, and is directed by "Superman Doomsday" co-director Brandon Vietti. Other famous names (and voices) lending themselves to the project are Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek) as Batman, John DiMaggio (Futurama) as the Joker, and Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter franchise) as Ra's Al Ghul.
"Batman: Under The Red Hood" will debut it's first promo on February 23rd in conjunction with the release of the new Justice League DVD.
