Aspiring TV writers have an opportunity to win $25,000 and a development deal with Fox as part of Fox Broadcasting Company and the New York Television Festival (NYTVF)'s third annual Comedy Script Contest.
Since 2008, the contest invites aspiring television writers to enter their scripts for original half-hour comedy TV pilots for the opportunity to win $25,000 and a development deal with Fox. Scripts must present an original idea for a potential half-hour comedy series, be properly formatted between 25-35 pages in length, and be submitted via the NYTVF page in PDF form. There is no entrance fee for submitting scripts.
"The FOX-NYTYVF script contest has proven to offer a truly unique opportunity for up and coming talent to gain visibility," said Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company. "So many writers are looking for a door into the television industry, and we benefit by helping to open that door."
A screening committee of NYTVF officials will narrow the pool of entrants down to 25 finalists. These finalists will be presented to Fox development executives. One winner will be selected by Fox, and he/she will receive $25,000 and a development deal with the network. Additionally, Fox may elect to enter into development agreements with the remaining finalists.
It's also a good way for writers to think outside of the box and get their work read by powerhouses in the industry without an already existing connection. So much about selling a script or a show in Hollywood is who you know, but this contest allows those who are new in town to have a chance, too. In fact, this contest only allows those who are "newer" writers to enter; no one with a development deal at any network, studio, or major production company will be considered. You can see all official rules on how to enter here.
The opening date for script submissions is Tuesday, June 1 2010 and they will accept submissions until June 15 2010 or when they receive fifteen-hundred scripts, whichever comes first. So make sure to get yours uploaded sooner rather than later, as there is guaranteed to be a rush during the first few days! Good luck!
