"I couldn't believe it; at first I thought they were putting me on!" Television legend and all around pop culture icon Betty White admitted on a phone interview in Los Angeles when asked how she first felt about hearing there was a fan-driven Facebook campaign to get her on Saturday Night Live.

"It came out of left field, and I was astounded," she elaborated. "I told my agent 'Please tell them thank you-- I appreciate it-- but no thank you.' And he said 'Oh no, you have to do it!'"

So White is doing it. The four-time Emmy Award winner and sixty-two year entertainment industry veteran will be hosting SNL for the first time on May 8th as a very special Mother's Day episode. Since Examiner spoke to her so early before her appearance, White couldn't tell us much about any sketches she would be bringing to life on the live variety show still two weeks away.

"I haven't a clue about what I'll be doing," she said. "I haven't met anybody; I haven't heard anything about content...but I look forward to maybe sitting down with the writers and hearing what they have in mind."

And the fact that the show is live isn't worrying White right now: "I grew up in live television, so that [aspect]'s no problem. I love live television!" Though perhaps the butterflies might begin to grow as the date gets closer. White did point out that though the physical aspect of the live show isn't worrisome, "it's just doing justice to all of the great people around there [that is tough]."

White said she "will leave everything up to [the writers] and just follow wherever they lead," though she was quick to add that they granted her "veto power" if there's something she absolutely doesn't want to do. Does that mean a sequel to "Motherlover," perhaps?? White laughed simply: "Well, they [did] promise me there'll be no nudity!"

Tune into NBC on Saturday May 8th at 11:30 pm to find out for sure!
