Equitrekking.com: Darley Newman, Greg Barna and Chip Ward at the
2009 Daytime Emmy Awards - Aug. 30, 2009
They didn't arrive in Los Angeles on horseback, but Darley Newman, Chip Ward and Greg Barna of the PBS series "Equitrekking" rode into the sunset on Sunday gripping the reins of a Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Award.
The Bethesda-based team won in the category of Achievement in Single Camera Photography for their work on the popular travel series, which explores the world on horseback with host Newman joining local guides to discover history, culture, food and adventure at each location. Ward, Newman's husband, is the show's producer.
The Emmy win specifically rewards director of photography Barna, whose high definition camerawork captures breathtaking vistas from around the world – including season four jaunts in Southern Spain, Scotland, Quebec City and Central Turkey.
Barna was nominated against Director of Photography Michael Phillips for the PBS series "DragonflyTV," Steve D'Onofrio for PBS' "This Old House" and the camera teams behind A&E's "Flip This House" and the Disney Channel's "Johnny and the Sprites."
“We were honored to be recognized alongside such wonderful, longtime television series and TV industry veterans at the Daytime Emmys in LA," Newman tells DC TV Examiner exclusively. "It was my dream to create and produce 'Equitrekking,' so winning the Emmy is amazing."
The series, now trotting toward its fifth season, was also nominated for Outstanding Special Class Series, but lost to the MTV documentary series "True Life."
In addition to PBS stations, "Equitrekking" is also available on Public Television lifestyle channel CREATE and on international networks in over 25 countries.
