Joe Jackson, the father of the late Michael Jackson, will appear on stage at the BET Awards tonight after reportedly showing up to the Shrine Auditorium without tickets, "sending workers and media into a frenzy," according to the Associated Press.
Sporting a black hat and large black sunglasses, the Jackson family patriarch was seen giving interviews on the red carpet about 30 minutes before the show began broadcasting live at 8 p.m.
In an interview with CNN's Don Lemon, Jackson said he's doing fine and the family is "holding up" since the passing of Michael Jackson on Thursday.
Jackson also used his CNN airtime to promote his new record company, introduce the family's new lawyer L. Londell McMillan and have his publicist read a statement noting his family's gratitude for the love and support from fans.
Several journalists in the press room said there was buzz earlier in the day that Michael's brothers Jermaine, Jackie and Tito would also make an appearance on the telecast as well. But so far, they have not been seen.
Host Jamie Foxx kicked off the BET Awards 09 ceremony sporting a red leather jacket inspired by Jackson's "Beat It" video and singing snippets of several Jackson tunes.
"No need to be sad. We want to celebrate this black man ... We gonna go through all of Michael Jackson," said Foxx, who went on to re-enact the King of Pop's signature moves. He also moonwalked across the length of the stage, saying it's something he's always wanted to do.

It was disgusting to see Joe Jackson. Michael has said many times that his father abused him during his childhood. It is revolting to see Joe take Michaels money and children.
I think it is disgusting that he promoted his new record company at a time like this. I also think its sad that he had to have a publicist read a statement rather than express his feelings for the passing of his own son. He should not be associated with Michael Jackson.
Are Joe and Katherine still married? Will he also be raising the grandkids? Here's hoping NOT.
That man (Joe Jackson)is repulsive. I can't believe his behavior just 72 hrs after his sons passing. He gave us a small glimpse of just how cold he can be. The timing of that plug was extremely insensitive and i will NEVER buy anything associated with Joe! I'm so sorry Michael had to be raised by that monster! Michael will forever be a part of my memories and my heart.
I can not believe that he did that. The rest of the world was sad, and all he could care about was his record company. I can only imagine what growing up with him was like. God please help Micheals poor kids. I am scared for them to be with him
i think that was bad thing to say about your child the child that never was able to grow up as the person he wanted to be and tried so hard to do because of you he died lonely and unhappy
Gave Joe a break nobody is prefect. Michael made his own decision as adult. Joe and his wife will do a good job rasing their grandchild. Their mother gave up that right What mother in the right mind gave her children up regardless who the father his.
nice plucked eyebrows! Real SWEET!
