Knight doesn't think he's being verbally or emotionally abusive. But, Jemmye realizes he is when she talks to a social worker about volunteering at a battered women's shelter.
McKenzie is also volunteering. After the roommates see the devastation on a Hurricane Katrina tour, she encourages them to help build a Habitat for Humanity house. Ryan doesn't want to go. Preston does go with the other roommates, but finds the tasks other people do with ease too difficult for him.
