On the Melissa & Joey episode that originally aired August 24, 2010, Mel, Lennox, and Ryder are enjoying the amazing meals Joe makes when he's in a good mood.
One day, Joe meets a woman at the grocery store. He tells her he's a nanny. She gets an emergency phone call from work and leaves abruptly. He assumes she faked her exit, because she didn't like his career choice.
Joe is bummed. He starts making boxed dinners and ordering take out.
Later, Joe meets Mel's old sorority sister, Liz. Mel wants to make Joe happy, so she can eat well again. She sets Joe up with Liz, and lies about his job.
Then, Mel finds out that Liz has been hired to audit her and the other city council members. Wanting to keep her good reputation intact, Mel asks Joe to continue lying to Liz. When they do finally confess to Liz, she doesn't believe them.
Back at the grocery store, Joe runs into the disappearing woman. This time, she isn't rushing to go anywhere like she was when she did truly have a work emergency.
In St. Paul, new episodes of Melissa & Joey can be seen Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. on the ABC Family channel.
