Fall TV 2011: Daytime dramas lose more ground to talk shows

As All My Children prepares to leave daytime after four decades, its timeslot will be given to yet another talk show. All the networks that air soaps are dealing with the challenges that soaps pose: increasing costs and declining viewership.

All My Children will air its last episode Friday, Sept. 23 on ABC 30. It is being replaced by a new talk show, The Chew, starting Monday, Sept. 26.

The show will continue thanks to a partnership with production company Prospect Park, which plans to continue the series online and possibly on cable. The company also plans to resurrect One Life to Live after its ABC finale early next year.

In a new epilogue for the paperback edition of her memoir, All My Life, AMC star Susan Lucci reportedly berates and blames the network for canceling the show because of greed.
