"Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives." Fans of the NBC soap opera know these words well, just as they know Frances Reid, who played the matriarch of one of Salem's most enduring families. Sadly, Reid has passed away yesterday at the age of 95.
Reid, who played Alice Horton, had been on the soap since 1965. Her last appearance on the show was in 2007. She was once assumed dead in 2004 as a victim of the Salem Stalker but that was merely a ruse and she returned alive and well later that year. Reid received the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004 for her work.
Alison Sweeney, who plays 'Sami' on the soap and is also the host of 'Biggest Loser' had this to say about Reid's passing: "I'm so sad to hear the news about Frances Reid. She was a truly talented actress and we are all lucky and proud to have known her."
