What will the world be like without free cars for the masses, heartaching interviews, and empowering advice for millions of daytime television viewers? Well, in September of 2011, we are going to find out. The finish line is in sight for The Oprah Winfrey Show, which has been a staple on daytime television for the last 25 years as Winfrey has decided to take a step back and focus on other endeavors.
Obviously, there cannot be an Oprah Winfrey Show without Oprah, but what does this mean for the future of daytime television and for the millions of loyal viewers who have tuned in to watch the show over the years? Winfrey's show has been unique in that, in addition to interviewing the major celebrities that have graced Hollywood with their presence in the last couple of decades, Oprah has focused her show on discussing emotional and mental health, entertainment, relationships, politics and world news. Women have long been drawn to Oprah's show for the empowerment that she brings to women through talking about many topics that are female-related.
Do any of the other current daytime talk shows come close to what Winfrey has created? Perhaps if you combined The Tyra Show, The Ellen Degeneres Show, and The Rachel Ray Show, then maybe it would be close to creating a similar balance like the Oprah Winfrey Show. But really, none of the current shows can stand on their own, toe-to-toe with Winfrey and the influence she has had over the years. Is it better off closing the book completely, putting Winfrey's show in its rightful place in the Television Hall of Fame and that's it? Or can the same results be replicated by trying to recreate the show with a different host?
