Ryan Seacrest and 'American Idol' surprised by popularity of 'Pants on the Ground'

Larry Platt from Atlanta was once again featured on "American Idol", this time during “The Road to Hollywood,” the last audition show of the season. After showing another clip of “Pants on the Ground,” Ryan Seacrest addressed the national popularity of General Larry Platt by saying, “We knew it was going to be popular, but even we were surprised just how influential it turned out to be.” The host of “American Idol” then showed viewers how “Pants on the Ground” was in homes, in colleges, and even a part of political debates. He continued, “It isn’t exactly ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ but it is a number that stays with you.”

Since debuting nationally during the “American Idol” Atlanta auditions, General Larry Platt has become a national hero, of sorts. He appeared on “The View,” met with the Minnesota Vikings, and performed “Pants on the Ground” live on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards. Katie Holmes and Elijah Wood from “The Romantics” recently told MTV News that they too are fans of the general, and called him amazing and mesmerizing. Larry Platt even made it to late night TV when Jimmy Fallon did a hilarious impression of Neil Young singing “Pants on the Ground.”

So, did Simon Cowell have a crystal ball when he said, “I have a horrible feeling that song will become a big hit?” According to Ryan Seacrest, even "American Idol" did not see this one coming, and was surprised at how General Larry Platt took the country by storm. Incredibly, his star is still shining brightly.
