Ladies and gentlemen, the search to replace Steve Carell on "The Office" just got that much more interesting. Although there are still some great internal candidates to take over Michael's spot from within (such as Rainn Wilson's Dwight and Ed Helms' Andy), some new actors are entering the rumor mill.
First of all, we have Portia de Rossi (soon to be Portia DeGeneres), who is one target of a Morning Glow report suggesting that an "Arrested Development" alum is being considered. This is a complicated choice in some ways -- Portia was positively brilliant as boss Veronica on the short-lived (but still fantastic) "Better Off Ted", but she would have to play a completely different character to keep from being Angela 2.0.
Next, Time Magazine has created a massive campaign for Michael Emerson, who has won audiences (and Emmy voters) over as Benjamin Linus on "Lost". Emerson has shown he has comedic chops in various parody videos, and he certainly has the credibility to tackle the more dramatic moments.
Some other recent names mentioned include Danny McBride, Rhys Darby, and even Ricky Gervais (who claims he has no interest).
