NBC's 'Chuck' recap: the secret is out -- to an extent

"Chuck" dropped a bombshell on all of us Monday night, even if it was something we could have seen coming a mile away: someone else knows about Bartowski's secret. In "Chuck vs. the Beard," Morgan Grimes became the second member of the geeky spy's inner circle to find out the truth about his double life.

Really, it happened in a way that fans can't help but smile at. Star Zachary Levi (who also directed this episode) chose to unveil the secret to Morgan in a very dramatic way -- the two were tied up and death appeared imminent. However, Morgan didn't frown or act upset when he found out the news -- rather, he thought it was the most awesome thing he'd ever heard.

While the main plot of the season is still in progress, these past few episodes have provided some great moments for us in terms of character psychology. We have two characters in Captain Awesome and Morgan who have found out Chuck's secret, and both of them react through the five-year old living inside of their heart. Rather than actually take the time and act concerned for his safety, they are far too busy being excited about this new occupation. As a matter of fact, both of them even show an interest in getting involved in the business. Why? They are drawn to the allure of the business without assessing any of the risks.

On a more comical note, this episode contained countless laugh-out-loud moments. The whole reason for Morgan's discovery was simple: a handful of Ring agents lured Sarah, Casey, and Shaw away from the Buy More so that they could infiltrate their secret base. Morgan watched them enter the underground, which sparked the final "revelation" scene with Chuck.

What made this funny was that these "infiltrators" came in under the guise as people wanting to purchase the Buy More -- and supposedly fire most of the team. Watching everyone stage a "sit-in" inside the story to keep their jobs was great stuff, particularly in the return of Jeffster (who knew Vik Sahay could sing CCR?) We also had a brief moment referencing Iwo Jima along with Mark Christopher Lawrence doing what he does best as Big Mike: be both funny and sympathetic within the span of five seconds.

In traditional "Chuck" fashion the threat was largely contained by the end of the episode and Chuck's friendship with Morgan was restored. However, we did receive one ominous preview of things to come in the form of Casey's mysterious phone call. Is Robert Patrick the one on the other land? (We all know he's appearing this season.) We'll just have to stay tuned.
