'Dancing With the Stars': Four professional dancers face cuts, ABC courts Paula Abdul

Although “Dancing With the Stars” doesn’t premiere until March 22nd, details are slowly beginning to leak out about season ten. Four professional dancers out of last’s season’s crew of 16 will be eliminated before the season even begins. Plus, the buzz continues to grow that Paula Abdul may be added as a fourth judge on the hugely popular reality competition series.

Many of the professional dancers don’t even know if they’ll be returning for season ten. That’s because the number of teams is being reduced by 25%. Last year, 16 stars began season nine. This season, only 12 stars will compete. That means 4 of the 16 dance professionals from last season will not return. The dancers don’t yet know who’s on the chopping block. Louis Van Amstel recently tweeted that the pros will learn their fates on February 8th. He said, “Only 20 more days before I find out about season 10 of DWTS. Hopefully I’ll be back.” The following 16 professional dancers competed last season, but four will not return:

The stars and their partners usually begin practicing several weeks before their first dance on “Dancing With the Stars.” That means rehearsals should begin in a month or so. As usual, the new slate of contestants will be announced live on “Good Morning America” during the week of March 1-5.

In more news, it’s been widely reported that ABC has offered Paula Abdul a $1 million development deal, if she agrees to appear on “Dancing With the Stars.” There is some speculation that Abdul has been asked to compete. However, if she accepts ABC’s offer, she will more likely become the fourth judge, joining Len Goodman, Bruno Tunioli and Carrie Ann Inaba. With years of choreography and dance experience, Paula Abdul would certainly have the know-how to offer constructive criticism. On the other hand, if she competes, ABC will face backlash from fans that already complain about an unfair advantage due to previous dance experience. This happened to Mya, although Donny Osmond ultimately defeated the singer during last season’s finals.

So, what do you think? Are you looking forward to a new season of “Dancing With the Stars”? Who are your favorite professional dancers, and who should go? Be sure to leave your thoughts and comments below.

I think adding Paula as a judge is a very bad idea. She is a Hot Mess on her best day. I think it would hurt the show.

Paula's dance resume' is probably longer than that of the other three judges, so yes, she belongs there. And I think she would be even better at judging dancing than singing. And she would add some fun to that show. What she has is called charm and personality and her smile lights up the room .... that is why the American Idol is so DARK these days.

I don't care who the judges are. I just love to watch the dancing, good or bad. It takes my mind off all the other bad stuff going on.

I wouldn't mind Paula on DWTS. If she does dancing with the stars would be nice to see her paired with Louis Van Amstel. That would be one pairing that I would watch from week to week;)

actually len is the only ballroom dancer. since it is a ballroom dance show it makes sense he is part of the panel. bruno tonioli has an extensive resume as a dancer and choreography more so then paula abdul. as far as carie anne inaba, i would say paula abdul more experienced then her as a choreogropher.

I agree with Jax, she would hurt the show. I love watch DWTS, and can't wait for the next group. But, not sure I would watch if Paula was a judge. The three judges now are the best. Don't change anything.... If it's not broken, don't mess with it.

I like the younger pros. Theyre the most fun to watch.

No, not Paula Abdul! She may know something about dancing in music videos but she is not qualified to be a ballroom dance judge. The current judges bring credibility to the show because they will honestly critique the performances. Of what I have observed of Paula Abdul on American Idol is she will compliment someone's appearance but has a hard time giving helpful technical information. Dancing With The Stars has been one of my favorite shows but I would likely stop watching if ABC made Paula Abdul a judge.

I am surprised that it hasn't occured to anyone that Paula might be replacing Samantha Harris who is leaving the show. Paula will bring a vibrant energy and excitement to the show. I think that reducing the number of dancers is not a bad idea if it means that they allow for more dancing and improve the presentation of new dances. The first two seasons were more reasonable in the progression of the "stars" learning new dance styles.

i absolutely love DWTS. Its the only show during the week that I must watch. I have no objection to Paula being made a judge.I think she would do better as a dance critic rather than a voice critic. i do have my favourite dancers though who I think should not be cut: Cheryl, Maksim,Dimitry, Mark, Derek and Karina
