If you were hoping that "American Idol" was planning to kick off their finale on May 26 by announcing the replacement for Simon Cowell, prepare to be disappointed. According to a new report by Entertainment Weekly, the show's executives are going to be extremely patient in terms of coming up with someone to sit in the judge's chair.
So far, there have been a number of big names linked to the seat -- from Howard Stern to Elton John to even former "Idol" contestant Adam Lambert. However, none of these have been proven to be anything more than mere rumors, and it's likely that "Idol" will likely look for someone with serious music credentials in order to keep the show's credibility as a talent competition. They need someone to be brutally honest, even when it may not be the easiest thing to do.
Who do you feel is the best candidate to replace Simon Cowell right now? Let me know your thoughts with a comment and stay tuned for more of the latest news. To view recent "Idol" photos, follow the links here and here. My most recent recap is at this link.

The best candidate is SIMON COWELL. There is not ONE person who could successfully fill his GARGANTUAN shoes. That's why I'm hoping he will reconsider and STAY.
It's gonna be Elton John. And I think he'd be great. No doubts that he'll be brutally honest, and quite frankly, I can see him being a bit snarky...just like Cowell.
Haven't watched the show in years but would come back for Adam Lambert.
Adam Lambert. Not only he knows his music, he is really smart, he knows how to help people with their choices and he knows how to train them...... He will bring A HUGE audience to the show because let's face it: regardless how poor the contestants will be , EVERYBODY WANTS TO SEE AND HEAR ADAM: mostly singing but talking will be sooooo goooood !
JUST LET US HAVE ADAM AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!
Ricky Gervais should replace Simon Cowell on American Idol!
