Wednesday night marked the night that many "American Idol" fans have been looking forward to all year -- the "Idol Gives Back" charity special. The show really is a wonderful celebration of music and charity, and this year they brought a variety of performers into the fold.
Here's a few impressions of the acts who are guaranteed not to go home / get critiqued by Simon.
- The Black Eyed Peas: Always a ton of fun as usual.
- Justin Bieber: He made millions of young girls happy, so it was a worthwhile investment on the show's part.
- Alicia Keys: Her voice sounded a little hoarse tonight, but Ms. Keys is always nothing short of great.
- George Lopez: Forced comedy bits = not typically funny. At least Simon was a good sport in taking abuse.
- Carrie Underwood: I had never heard this song before she sang it, so in some ways I'm still trying to process it.
- Jonah Hill and Russell Brand: This is where things get a little weird. I appreciate that "Idol" was going for laughs, but that's no exactly the show's strong suit. Using "Octomom" Nadya Suleman was a little desperate...and I would have liked to see Jim Carrey a little while longer.
- Wanda Sykes: Wanda deserved more time to work her magic, but her bit about contestants having to perform after they are sent home was pretty funny.
- Mary J. Blige: I think I've seen Blige on every show in recent memory, but the "All-Star" lineup (including Randy Jackson) was actually pretty cool.
We also had a number of montages for charity, and a special appearance by Bill Gates (who I like to refer to as the richest man in the universe). Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi, and David Cook all introduced charity packages.
Oh, so there are also results! Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze were the first two declared safe, and Aaron Kelly and Casey James were informed that they were in the bottom three. Tim Urban eventually joined them, meaning that Michael Lynche managed to keep his fans behind him for one more week.
In the end, Tim Urban couldn't survive another week despite a surprisingly strong amount of fan support -- and he didn't even get a chance to sing goodbye.

"Are you disappointed to see Aaron leave"? I though Tim left.
I was HOPING Aaron would leave instead of Tim, but I guess it was his time. I'm really tired of Mike and Aaron though...
I loved Tim I thought Casey James should have left and he didnt even get to sing goodbye wth? Aaron its up to you your the best you can do it I've been your fans since the first audition :)
No way he should have gone home tonight. He is by far the best of the guys. They should have let him sing at least. Done with American Idol for the year
Goodbye Tim - won't be missed!
I am tired of Michael Lynche,Crystal Bowersox ,and Sioban Magnus.Ican see why people like Crystal but I just don't ugghhh.Tim was better then Sioban and Casey!
Wow Cathy WOW.
does anyone know what talk shows he's going to be on after this?
I'm done watching Idol until the finale. Tim will be missed on the show. Mike is arrogant, Aaron is scared, Casey and Lee are dull. Crystal and Siobhan are interesting, but Tim was the only one who looked like he was having fun. I bet Tim will be busy fielding calls from talent agents. He might not be the best singer, but he could definitely be in a High School Musical type of movie. I think Tim has a bright future.
I don't know why everyone is excited to se tim leave.
The Black Eyed Peas and awful and pathetic! They have ridiculous music and performances. Tim should have been gone a long time ago. Nice kid but no talent. Crystal is the best. Casey was great when he sang "Jealous Guy"
thats too bad, he really was (one of) the best of the worst. this year is pretty horrible. wouldve liked to see crystal or siobhan go, theyre way too overrated while ones like tim and lee were underrated. hoping to see lee take the win, aaron in second.
I'll miss Tim and like someone else wrote, I'm just not interested in watching anymore - not letting Tim sing at the end to me was just like a "get even" hit to him for his audacity in smiling through the often cruel comments. I hope too that he has a bright future ahead of him.
That was certainly one LOUSY Idol Gives Back show. Changed the channel as soon as the Black Eyed Peas took the stage ... MOST OVER RATED GROUP of NO TALENT in MUSIC today!! If that's music ... I'll watch HOCKEY thank you & I don't even LIKE hockey!!
THANK YOU GOD, You people must be crazy or tone deaf because Tim could not sing his way of a paper bag I just can't belive he lasted as long as he did they let people go who could sing go home. SO COM' SON the could not sing.
I hate Tim singing thank you he gone. Now let hope big Mike goes let see who he pick up them Hey Mike save picking people up for the Daughter......
Yea for terie I agree don't get the black eye peas
It was sad to see him leave the show. I think the same way with a lot of people that Crystal is overrated. I hope Lee win this year. Now, I don't want to watch American Idol anymore cause no more Tim-.-
