'American Idol' elimination: Michelle Delamor makes surprising exit

On Thursday night's elimination episode of "American Idol," we saw three rather predictable exits and one surprise.

John Park: At one point after his audition, I was actually ready to declare John one of the favorites among the men. However, he has fallen faster than lead in the ocean over the course of the past two weeks. I don't know if it was nerves or the lack of stage presence -- John just never seemed to have a high enough performance quality during the live shows.

Jermaine Sellers: While it's a shame to see Tim Urban still on the show simply because he has Justin Bieber hair, Jermaine deserved to go thanks to his screeching vocals and awkward band encounters.

Haeley Vaughn: We all saw this exit coming, mainly because Simon Cowell and company really should have put Angela Martin in the top 24 instead. She had a fun personality and interesting love for country music, but her take on Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" was the weakest performance of the girls this week.

Michelle Delamor: While Michelle wasn't exactly a front-runner, I would have ranked her above Paige Miles, Lacey Brown, and Katie Stevens. Her take on Creed's "With Arms Wide Open" was fun, different, and actually emotional. What this vote proves is that tragically America wants to see more karaoke songs for one more week rather than genuine performances.

Former contestant Danny Gokey also made an appearance on the broadcast, which was nice since we've heard almost nothing from him lately in comparison to Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.

I actually wasn't surprised when Michelle got the boot, because although she may have had superior vocal skill (as compared to some of the contestants that stayed on for another week), she didn't have good performing skills. She might sing the song well, but we won't care one way or the other unless she's an engaging performer. She deserved another chance to get it right though, I'll give her that. Just not top 12 material.
