'American Idol': Adam Lambert reaches new high point on Canadian Hot 100

Adam Lambert went into the Billboard chart announcement Thursday with some momentum, but it was still to be seen exactly how he would finish up in terms of final numbers. Thankfully, all of the news this week is good news.

First, let's start with the most major development -- that Adam now has reached a new peak with "If I Had You" on the Canadian Hot 100. After re-entering the top ten last week with the song, he is now sitting at #8. The last time the "American Idol" singer was so high on the chart was when "Whataya Want From Me" ultimately peaked at #3 north of the border earlier this year.

As for Adam's overall chart movement here in the States, there really isn't much movement to even talk about. For the second straight week, the singer is sitting at #32. This is likely due to a decrease in single sales, though increased radio airplay helped to maintain a strong position near the top thirty of the chart.

Do you think Adam can break into the upper echelon of the Hot 100 next week?

I don't think it matters at this point. Adam is getting ready to take the tour out of the states where he will gain so much momentum and sell lots of music. The constipated big boys who are pissed at Adam's 'finger' at the AMA's can't control what radio and television stations play out of the states. The internet is out of their control, too. Let them sit on their radio and television play and fossilize while they alienate their customers.

I f we let these constipated big boys who are pissed at Adam win then we might loose the most dynamic talent since Elvis to another country. If that happens then those constipated big boys win. I do not want them to win. Lets put it another way. I WON'T LET THEM WIN!. It does matter how well Adam is doing on the charts in the U.S. It matters alot. I want Adam to do well here. I want to be able to see him in concert again HERE! We need to give Adam more support buy buying his CD's, requesting his music on the radio, voting for him on Vh1 Top Twenty ect. I want Adam to tour overseas because I know he will have the time of his life, and they love him, but I want him to return to the U.S and get the same warm welcome. If you were able to see Adam in concert then you would know how much we love him. The word of how spectacular Adam is is spreading. We need to keep this momentum going.

IIHY was the most played song in Australia this week AND last week, I think that says something about how AWESOME he is, even though there is not a lot of publicity about him over here.... People still dont know who the hell I am talking about when I say "Im going to see Adam Lambert in October" but they know his music. We need to get his face everywhere and then he will be UNSTOPPABLE...

I think Adam will climb higher on mediabase next week. He's about to enter the top 20 again tomorrow and has good spin increases. Maybe the increased radio play will help sales, however, he really needs a tv appearance to garner more sales. But the tour is keeping him from performing on tv. His international shows are already selling out so much success is coming his way overseas.

    Hi, Matt,

Yes, Adam can move into the top 20 and totally beyond. The song is amazing! I wish there was a TV appearance that could magically surface before Adam heads out internationally. Adam is loved, and love for his music will just keep growing.

It is interesting that Adam has a bigger following and career in Canada then he does in the USA. I hate admitting it but I think the American Music Awards may have done a lot more damage to his image and career here than we, as his die hard fans, truly realize and that makes me sad. However, I know that as we get further away from that and he continues to prove what a remarkable talent he is and a smart, articulate and loving person than the rest of the USA will catch on and embrace him.

It maybe true that Adam's AMA performance have hurt his jump start career. However, I've heard that from many sources that it's his AMA performance that put him on the map in many different countries. It was bigger news than becoming an AI runner-up. I believe that US and UK music industry have general prejudice against reality contestant becoming a fast star. And the fact that Adam is pretty polarizing that he probably has equal amount of haters to followers. Regardless, Adam has trail-blazed and shook up US music industry with his AMA performance, therefore, it'll go down in history.

In this HOMOPOBIC US?? I hope and PRAY that he will. So Sad to see how so many countries EMBRACE Adam but NOT his OWN country. Glad I am NOT an AMERICAN..
US is a country that LOVES to see naked women acting in a VERY VERY sexual manners at ALL TIMES. A country that is AFRAID and NOT able to RESPECT its OWN ppl. A country that controlled by the BIGGEST BIGOTS in the world!!!!
I wll support and RESPECT Adam FOREVER!!!! He is an AMAZING PERSON and ENTERTAINER that DESERVED to be RESPECTED!!! He is HUGE and will just get BIGGER and BIGGER!!1

I disagree with you. Adam is very loved in US. US is the biggest music market and if you compare the number of his followers and sales in US to say Canada, Canada having much smaller population, the numbers do not compare. As for the homophobia, it seems to lay heavily on entertainment industry in US, especially in music. There are bigots in every country. The recent poll shows that 50% of US citizens are for the same sex marriage. We have long ways to go, but we are on the right track. Adam is paying his due slowly here, which I think it's helpful for the longevity of his career. A quick fire goes out faster.

radio stations are loosing a lot of good quilty listers. MOST of the day the play CRAP rap music.
Who listen to tha stuf???? Crappy music=not very educated listeners.
Adam is gaining fame all over the world!!! he is an INTERNATIONAL STAR!!! I will not be surprise if, at some point in his life, Adam will move to nother country where he can enjoy life whithout being judged.

I agree. That thought has crossed my mind. (i live in Canada). If his second cd doesn't get support from the American public (the non glamberts) he may have to consider an alternative.
BUT in the meantime you have got to vote for him, check radio playlists on their websites, email them or phone them with requests. Use different emails and names. Get your friends to help you.
98.5 virgin radio and 101.5 here play IF I HAD YOU several times a day. Don't give up. Radio stations have to know what their audiences want. You are bound to find a pop station that will consider the tastes of their listeners. And when they play it, thank them. Congratulate them. Mention other stations that don't care about their listeners. Buy the cd and don't forget about Adam's website. We've got to keep the publicity going.

If TPTB at ABC and the AMAs were smart (which I don't believe they are), they would invite Adam back to perform at this year's ceremony. It would generate huge buzz both for Adam and for the show, and he could go on there and KILL it. According to Adam Official, it seems a new single will be released in the near future (my bet is on "Sleepwalker") - which would be a *fantastic* song for him to perform on the show to demonstrate he doesn't need controversy to make an enormous impact. All he needs is that VOICE. He'll be touring out of the country at the time of the ceremony, unfortunately, but if logistics would permit him to make a quick trip to the States, it would be well worth everyone's while.

Not that I really believe it will happen, but hope springs eternal.

When I look at the big picture, I can only see good things for Adam Lambert. His level of success here in the US is a reflection of the country we live in. May be at some point the US will evolve into a more open-minded society and catch on with the rest of the world. Adam Lambert's talent should certainly raise him to megastardom worldwide.

I think you are a concern troll and not a fan at all tbh. Adam was always going to battle in the US, AMA's or no. FYE had ALREADY been rejected b4 the AMAs even happened. Couldn't have an openly gay man singing a song with a decidedly sexual interpretation.

I'm happy with where he is at right now, he always had a more difficult battle in the US than most idol alumn simply because he likes boys. He has to build radio support and overcome prejudice from people that wont entertain his album simply because he is gay. Most ai alumn get the best of their radio support right out of the gate and for the vast majority of them, it is all downhill from there.

I still think that if they get a decent second album together, Adam will be the first idol since Kelly to see his second album sell more than the first.

I think all the hate was great for his career.
Yes, It makes him battle for everything, But it also gives him publicity he needs.
I never would have heard of him if CTV news didn't comment on the AMA's.
I was never a big fan of AI, and when I heard of an openly gay boy kissing another boy on the AMA's, I wanted to know more.
Now here I am, as a Glambert.
The hate pushed him down with the close-minded people, but it also pushed him UP.

Adam is just starting his career, theres no way to tell where he's going to head. His voice is AMAZING, but many people may be too scared to recognize that. Or, simply put, they dont like his style of music.

I wouldnt care if the USA didnt like Adam because of his style of music- But it pisses me off when they don't like him because he wears make-up or because he's gay. They need to open their ears and listen to the music, without judgement.

I hope Adam goes further in his career. I hope he goes above and beyond. But only time will tell.

Congrats to Adam for the Cananadian achievement, we can only hope that those who move music in the USA wake up and catch up but our country as great as it is still has many, many conservatives who can't seem to open their minds to new experiences, and get over their personal prejudices and phobias. Missing out on experiecing the talents of someone like Adam is really their loss-and a great one.

I agree that America already rejected FYE before the AMAs! That song is better than any out there and should be played on the radio every day, in clubs and lounges! But no, a sexual song sung by a male gay? Embraced in America? Oh no, they are too busy flailing over their naked girl pop stars, everyone of them se,lling sex for entertainment and this America emvbraces! Sad, that a country has birthed such an amzing mega talent but will not support him like its neighbors do! Perhaps that explains all their problems, maybe if they changed the way they accepted and loved thier own, they wouldnt always be in such a mess!
I am proud to be a Canadian, a country who embraced and loves Adam Lambert, not just for his mega talent, but for his amazing heart and his ability to stay true to himself! Maybe his Country should rtake lessons from him instead of snubbing him, they just might end up being respected for it!
Adam Lambert's If I Had You is the best song out there, everyone knows it but the constipated big boys are trying to ruin it and Adam, I hope that his US fans dont stand still and let them, get out and buy, request, get this boy the recognition he deserves! Adam is a dream come true in this autontoned rapping industry!!

Exactly, well said! I'm Canadian. At Adam's concert in St. Jean, Quebec 75,000 people "set him on fire" . They new the words to every song and sang with him. They gave him so much love, He is the ultimate entertainer and the more I see of him I believe he belongs on the stage in front of tens of thousands of people. BTW, his video is still number one here. I have lost track of how many weeks it's been there. No one can bump him out of first place!
What is wrong in the U.S. ? You won't play his songs because he's gay? Stand up for freedom of expression and the right to choose. We do. Gay marriage has been legal here for years. It's 2010, join the rest of the world.

Adam's management is on top of things it seems, if you look at his schedule there are a few open windows before the main part of the international tour starts, I wouldn't be surprised to see him on T.V. somewhere, maybe Leno who loves him, and with Rickey Minor there, it would be a good show. Who knows. The U.S. market better wake up because Adam isn't going anywhere. Talent will prevail, and to be honest, being the first in any arena is the most difficult, but he's handling it well.

When listening to his FYE yesterday in my car, it struck me that there are at least 6 songs on that deserve to be radio hits: - FYE, WWFM, IIHY, Fever, Sleepwalker and perhaps Strut. They are all better than half the cr@p you hear on top 40 radio right now. The AMAs DID hurt him in the US. I know a number of people in the radio business who are HUGE fans of AL, but they are all women. There is not one doubt in my mind that there are prejudices at stake.

Adam - just keep doing what you're doing. Another album will be another opportunity to prove himself to America. Meanwhile to our friends in Canada and in the East: bravo for your good taste.

The minute the US (and other) media will STOP referring to Adam Lambert as a "runner up of AI", the better. The current runner up (2010), for the non-initiated of American Idol is Crystal Bowersox, not AL. He is NO longer a runner up of anything, having proven to everyone that he is a genuine, talented and intelligent singer. I don't see anyone referring to Daughtry as the 4th runner up of AI season whatever, so DO THE SAME FOR ADAM LAMBERT!!

Adam will win out in the long run. He's doing everything he can to further his career and along the way is picking up so many more fans by doing his tour. His fans, me included, tend to educate those around them about his fantastic talent. Not being preachy, I write down youtube videos that I suggest they tune into to hear his unearthly voice...from Brigadoon and Hair (My Conviction) to Crawl thru Fire and Crazy. Of course, there are so many recent videos to see but I like telling my friends that this dude has done his homework. He is an extremely hard worker and, after setting his goals, is going after what he truly deserves....mega stardom. I am a fan supporting him in every way possible. Join his new fan club, buy his cds, donate to his charity, Donors Choose. Just love him!

I don't think Adam's AMA performance hurt him here in the USA. Just the fact that he's openly gay turns off many in our extremely homophobic society. Most developed nations are much more free-thinking than Americans. But, he's a groundbreaker for many and whether he's number 1 on the charts or number 32 makes no difference. He is successful and this is only his first album and first tour. I think his next album will eclipse this first, somewhat rushed AI-inspired one. And, he's one of the more successful concert artists around these days...Just try getting tickets to see him...I've taken two straight men to see him and both are now fans (but neither are homophobic).

  • Anonymous 1 year ago
    Report Abuse

I agree totally. I'm Canadian. I wish him nothing but success on his international concerts. I hope they are large venues and this will open the eyes of the homophobics. Maybe they will finally realize that there is an American superstar on the rise and they better support him with all they have. His next cd is bound to be exceptional as he has had more time to prepare for it and he knows what his fans want. One more thing. All these blogs we join supporting Adam and discussing homophobia is exactly what is needed. I have never voted for videos or emailed radio stations for any other artist ever. I'm doing it for Adam because he's a groundbreaker, openly gay. We have to give him all the publicity and support that we can.

Matt, I hope you read this one. Today I read the article about Freddie Mercury CD award. But what I want to talk about , actually, just a frase from this article "Freddie Mercury"s curse! Don't you think Adam has this curse? It's about all of these awards, nominatiion, etc... he was not invited?! I don't think Freddei was nominated for a lot of awards or stay on VH1 or Billboard more than a few days.
Adam is very gifted boy. But only one frase changed Freddie carrier in US " DArling, I am gay as daffodil" .

Such great comments from so many. I just wish I could move to Canada where they are so loving and open-minded. American is emotionally bankrupt and cannot deal with talent, let alone flamboyant male singers the way other coutries do. We need to give Adam some time and hopefully things will turn around. He's done better than I ever expected when you consider the obstacles he is facing. Keep voting and requesting. I am tired of hearing the same old songs over and over. Love you Canada!
