Has Adam Lambert reached a peak with "If I Had You" on the Top 40 chat? Unless we see more radio stations picking up the song over the course of the next week, it may be so. However, there is still plenty of good airplay news to write home about this week.
First of all, Adam is still gaining Top 40 spins with the new single from "For Your Entertainment" -- albeit at a diminished rate than the past two weeks. The "American Idol" singer is sitting at 3,462 spins right now, which is an increase of 200 from the week before. Even with this, massive spin increases for Flo Rida, Taylor Swift, and OneRepublic have caused Adam to slip from #20 down to #23.
Everything is on the way up for Adam on the Hot AC chart this week (also powered by Mediabase). Adam had 906 spins this week from Adult Contemporary stations, which moves him up one spot this week to #24. There is also easy potential for him to rise an additional spot or two in the next week.
Do you think "If I Had You" still has plenty of room for growth on these airplay charts?

The only worries I have about "If I Had You" moving up any farther is that it's more of a summer jam. As the weather starts to cool off I see HAC stations, especially, just hanging on to "Whaddya Want From Me" as hit has more of a Fall/Winter feel. I know Adam has said that contract has him having a new album on the street by Spring '11 but I don't these three singles will pull us through the Winter. He's also said he doesn't know if RCA will release any more singles from FYE. I see that as a bad choice if so. "Sleepwalker" should be rolled out around November. I see it hitting its stride after the first of the year. It would give him three solid tracks and the potential for one more really good video. It would also set things up for the album release.
Radio stations seem to be intentionally sabatoging IHY, especially on the weekends with Open House Party. He can have positive spins all week then dive on the weekends because they either don't spin it or only spin it once when he has to have two spins. This weekend they spun IIHY once and then played WWFM instead. There are many stations that are taking spins away from IIHY by playing WWFM. When WWFM needed those spins to stay up on pop they stopped completely spinning. I just don't understand radio.
Adam needs to roll out "Sleepwalker" soon. Fans love that song and I haven't met anyone who doesn't believe it will be a radio darling.
Plenty of growth, Matt I haven't even heard him once yet on the radio! Same old 10 songs, over and over, I don't even need to name them we all know who it is. Disgusting the way they are dishing adam!
What is wrong with certain U.S. stations? Are they punishing him because he's gay??
I thought we were past that. I'm in Calgary, Canada. 98.5 virgin radio and 101.5 play his music daily.
It is amazing how the music business has so much control over an artist. I still think there is some backlash for his first single, album cover and AMAs. I'm hoping in time things will change. I agree that I hear the same 10 songs on the radio. We need to keep requesting and trying. I agree that Sleepwalker could be a good song. America just worries me because of it's terrible taste in music.
