Donny Osmond was named the winner of "Dancing with the Stars" season nine and awarded the famous Mirror Ball Trophy on the season finale Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009.
Donny looked ecstatic holding the trophy over his head and immediately pulled his wife and sister on to stage to celebrate with him.
Mya was the second place celebrity, and Kelly Osbourne was the third place celebrity.
Final performances
Before the announcement of the winner the celebrities had one last time to wow the judges. The judges then ranked them from first to third, and those rankings were added to their scores from the previous night and viewers' votes.
Kelly and Louie - Viennese Waltz - 3rd place
- Judges - Kelly has obviously found a new level of confidence; Unbelievably elegant routine; Carrie Ann said, with tears in her eyes, that she didn't think any celebrity on any season had touched her as much as Kelly has
- Manchester TV Examiner - Graceful; Elegant; Extremely improved; I wasn't surprised at all when the crowd started to chant her name because she has matured so much since the first week
Mya and Dmitry - Jive - 2nd place
- Judges - Never missed a beat; Mya has it all; Mya is the celebrity everyone has been trying to keep up with all season; Mya has finally reached star status
- Manchester TV Examiner - Could not tell who was the celebrity and who was the professional; Extremely upbeat and full of personality and energy; On the technical side it was a fantastic Jive
Donny and Kym - Argentine Tango - 1st place
- Judges - Artistry in motion; Really finished strong; Completely believable
- Manchester TV Examiner - Passionate; Excellent footwork; Loved the turns; Really enjoyed watching this Argentine Tango
Highlights
- Whitney Houston performed "Million Dollar Bill". The performance was fantastic and really showed Whitney was back! The performance was topped off with dollar bills falling from above! Later, the superstar singer performed her huge hit "I Wanna Dance with Somebody." Perfect ending to the night!
- Jeffrey Ross gave viewers a peak in to The Loser's Club, which was ready to welcome a new member. Ashley Hamilton was that new member, and he called the title and sparkle-ridden new jacket an honor. He and his former dance partner, Edyta, then took the stage for one last dance.
- All of the eliminated celebrities and their partners returned to perform new dances, including Tom DeLay and the Texas Two-Step he wanted so badly to perform the first time around. His performance wasn't very good, but it was a joy to watch because he looked so happy finally getting to perform it.
- Viewers saw a hilarious video of the training Adam Carolla has been putting the final three dancers through since the morning. His training focused most on whipping Danny in to shape because it has been a while since a man won.
- Donny Osmond performed "Puppy Love."
- Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin battled on the dance floor to be the best football player "Dancing with the Stars" has ever had. The performance was set to the theme music from Monday Night Football and was so much fun to watch. Honestly, it was one of my favorite non-competition performances of the season. The judges gave the performance award to Michael but the body award to Jerry, and both were given Mirror Ball Trophy rings in true Superbowl fashion.
- Joanna Krupa, Jerry Springer, Steve Wozniak and Cloris Leachman competed in a competition Mambo. This was a much sillier version than the original competition Mambo, but it was also a lot more fun to watch. It was no surprise that Joanna won. Actually, the only surprise was that Joanna was even mixed in with this group. Thankfully, at the end viewers learned it was all a set up just to see the now famous head-bob move one more time. Love that move!

MYA IS THE BEST BEST BEST ...........
SO SAD.............
The last 10 week was a joke, Donny consistantly mess up week after week. This isn't a dance show based on talent...It is a joke. The judges are as fake as the show. I am sorry I wasted my time watching I won't do again. Sorry Mya you did deserve to win if it was based on talent.
I only wish I could be on Entertainment Tonight and have my sister pushing button for me. I didn't see and other participates singing in the finale...by the way Mya is a singer too...I have never seen anyone get pubbed like Donny did. This show is a waste, I hope you all sleep well for entertainment purposes only. JOKE
True fan never again, not watching anymore.
But you know the people voted them in...so thats how it rolls...
This show is rigged. Mya won hands down. I will not watch this show next season. I also that the outcome of this season will affect its rating next season.
I feel this show is a waste of time. It should be judged by professional dancers instead of people calling in votes. The person was right, Donny messed up dancing most of his routines. It's a darn shame!!
I THOUGH THIS SHOW WAS FOR REAL BASE ON SOMEBODY SKILL TO DANCE NOT HOW MANY PEOPLE CALL IN ,WHO LIKE THEM I'M UPSET THAT THE SHOW WAS RAN LIKE THAT IT REMINDE ME OF THE WORLD VERY RACISTS I THINK MYA DIDN'T WIN BECUSE OF HER BEING BLACK!
Fire all three judges. They had it in for Mya from the very beginning. They gave Donny those high scores just to keep Mya from winning. And their little scheme worked. Donny a winner on DWTS. Just shows you what a joke this season was. Mya, your the best dancer ever on DWTS.
Donnie only won because he's an entertainer who won the friendship of the judges. Mya had it hands down, but like in everything else life - it's not what you do, it's who you know!
I too will find it hard to watch next year since the show did not appear to be judged correctly. And how do you know that the call in vote count was right?
