As Thursday night’s big night of TV edges even closer, with just too many shows that aired, let’s hit the week’s highs and lows.
Monday saw the return of Chuck, where our hero is missing or has lost his ability to flash. A thankless and albeit funny unneeded cameo by Summer Glau, the show rolls through the Sarah and Chuck dating punches. Castle was also strong, along with CBS’s Hawaii Five-O, where Scott Cann calls an ex-seal friend’s bluff, (or does he?) much to the chagrin of McGarret, who are all tasked in protecting a political overseas general who seeks asylum, which in itself raises concerns.
Tuesday’s No Ordinary Family continues to be ordinary but comes close to breaking the mold with an excellent turn of script from Eli Stone co-creator Marc Guggenheim. The Good Wife benefited greatly from the appearance of Michael J. Fox, a terrific treat from an amazing actor, who as always, finds a way to work his disability into his performance, so we see the performance, not an actor standing there with a disability. Parenthood as always made the best of it’s strong cast, this time mixing it up by throwing ex-Eli Stone-co-star Sam Jaeger’s Joel and Dax Shepard’s Crosby into the fray over directing a school play, while Craig T. Nelson’s Zeek fights an emotional battle of old wounds with his wife, Camille played by Bonnie Bedelia. Tuesday also showcased a dramatic turn in Fox's Glee at the firing the the principal, and possibly Shuester, in what continues to be a topsy-turvy season full of good and bad episodes. Luckily Glee leaned more into the good side this week, albiet with too much focus on Kurt.
Wednesday Night showed us flasbacks on how the boys got together and how subsequently Hank lost his job as a cop on FX’s Terriers, whilst on ABC comedy night brought gold with Modern Family and the underappreciated gem Cougar Town, which saw Travis bring home a new girlfriend, a bit older than him, vying (unknowningly) for Courtney Cox’s Jules affections.
Some of the highlights of the week:
- the twist on the case that got Hank fired in Terriers
- Bob Clendenin's rift as Tom trying to be apart of the group in CougarTown
- the intense scene between Craig T. Nelson and Bonnie Bedelia in Parenthood
