ABC's 'The Forgotten' canceled (video)

ABC cancels 'The Forgotten'

March 10, 2010 -- ABC has decided to cancel it's show 'The Forgotten' staring Christian Slater. The show debuted on September 22, 2009 on ABC after 'Dancing With The Stars.'

When the show first began airing it had a viewership of 9.54 million with 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Later the shows ratings dropped to 1.7 rating and 6.49 million viewers.

Last week, ABC announced that they were preempting the March 16th installment of the forgotten in favor of a FlashForward recap show. Now, they're pulling the March 23rd episode as well and are calling next week's the season finale. The show follows a group of civilians that take cold case murders from the police and try to identify the body, using unique tools to help fill in the missing pieces.

'The Forgotten' also stars Michelle Borth, Heather Stephens, Bob Stephenson, Rochelle Aytes, Anthony Carrigan, Judith Hoag, and Lily Rains. "I'm sad to hear that this show has been canceled," said Cleveland area resident Jo Debord. "I liked it."

Just watched the finale on my DVR. I always liked the series, but didn't know how long they could sustain the premise. How many different ways can civilians solve cold cases that foiled the authorities when we don't have access to the same resources they do? Still and all, they never stretched credibility too far. For the most part, the avenues they used were either outside the realm of normal detective work or required more man-hours than a cop with a normal caseload can put into just one.
Best of all, though, the finale closed the book on the main charcter's story. That doesn't happen often enough when shows get cancelled early.

I hate when these networks put a new show on, change the air times, the characters and then are suprised when the ratings go down. What do they expect? It seems that they are so quick to pull the plug on shows that aren't "working" that people are afraid to get interested in the first place. As soon as we start to get a vested interest in the show/characters it is canceled.
Paucle and I are in the same boat. I just watched the finale (unbeknownced to me!) and wondered if it had been canceled because of the ending. I am glad that they did tie up some of the lose ends but I really wish they would give some of these shows a little more chance.

Yeah I have lot to say. I don't understand what genius cancels
good shows for late night and keeps shoes on like Greys Anatomy and Private Practice. You take off most of the mystery shows. I
was getting into the Angie Harmon was in and you decide to cancel
it. Whoever decides better get there head out of their behind.

This show had cops but wasn't the same as myriad cop shows that are on, and for me it was like a breath of fresh air. I thought Christian Slater's acting was even better than his last series- and the writing on this show was better than average. I think 5-6 more episodes and the writers really would have had something- but they didn't get the time...anyway- the finale showed class and intelligence. I didn't know either but wondered as I watched it. At least it got a decent sendoff.

Finding out that last night's "Season Finale" is really the "Series Finale" is a bummer! This is a good show. Good acting, good subject matter, good creative writing. It keeps you on your toes. I hope it isn't true. I hope ABC or some other network picks up this show. It is a keeper. So many idiotic "reality" type shows are kept on TV and yet they cancel one of the good, normal shows! That is ridiculous. Is that the mentality of the American audience; they want garbage reality shows? God help us if it is!

You have got to be kidding me??? This is the absolute best show on TV right now. In a time when tv seems to be revolving around "reality " tv, this is the most meaningful, in depth television show I have seen in a very long time. Why I ask is it that every time a television show comes to tv that actually stands for something, a show that makes you think and feel and react, does it get pulled??? Are viewers these days really that shallow that they cannot appreciate good tv when they see it, causing them to cancel? PLEASE ABC... don't take this one away!!!

This is terrible. It shows the mentality of our country when shows like Lost and Survivor last for years and a terrific show like forgotten gets cancelled. Like my son says, what kind of "survivor" with cameras, caterers and medical staff close by. I wouldn't expect any other commentary from a former Marine.

I liked this show as well but unforunately until people stop watching reality tv the networks will continue to shove that crap down our throats. Not point complaining about it until others realize what crap reality tv is.

This upsets me. This was such a great show, it was original and that is hard to find nowadays. Why do networks not give a show a chance to get it's legs? Sometimes they need to tweak a few things in order for them to work out. The Forgotten was working on making some changes but were not allowed a chance for them to take effect.

Also, a little promotion might help! I wish they would give this show one more chance! It can't hurt, because you know whatever shows they replace it with probably won't last that long either! Why not allow the already set fanbase enjoy this show for another season, then see what happens. They need to start giving TV Shows a chance instead of cancelling them too soon. I guess the 4+million viewers don't count. Maybe another network should pick up the show.

I really enjoyed this show and am sorry that ABC canceled it. The show was not only entertainment but also allowed the message to get out on ways that we could help real "forgotten" people. Maybe ABC will see the error of there ways and bring the show back soon.

I really hate to see this show go...it really pulls at your heart strings especially when you think about what the show is all about. Some may think its just television but it makes you think, what if? What if it were my son or my daughter or a friend that just disappeared...where do you find peace and how do they...people need hope and in my opinion this gave just that to a lot of people...The show was great, the cast was great and the feeling it left me with each week was well GREAT... Please re-think this decision and give it a little more time...Thankyou.

I am terribly disappointed. I loved this show. If I am going to invest my limited free time, then I want it to count for something. There is so much garbage on tv these days, it is sickening. Networks don't give shows enough opportunity to succeed. Like the rest of society, the execs want instant gratification. I can't tell you how many shows I have watched, started to get into and bam they are gone. It makes you not want to invest your time or energy at all. Maybe another network will pick it up. One can only hope.

I hate that everytime ABC has a good show they go and cancel it without giving it a fair chance. It makes me not want to watch any new show that they put on the air. I was also a fan of their comedy Sons and Daughters(which was just as funny as Modern Family) and it was given only one season.

    This is sad news.

The show had some major flaws. 20 minute's into ever episode they identified the Jane/John Doe and then spent the next 40 minute's catching the bad guy and we all know that's not what happens in real life.

But it did highlight a major problem and in its short run helped to bring answers for one family- The family of Paula Davis, who had been a Jane Doe for over 22 years.

I am very upset with ABC. This was a great show and they put it up against the "good Wife" and expect high ratings. I actually watch The Forgotten live and later viewed the DVR of the Good WIfe. Bad decision ABC. The team of actors were great and the storyline even better. Please reconsider this awful decision.

I'm curious where the author got her information. ABC has NOT announced that the show has been cancelled. There are two episodes left (though this week's was the last shot) and ABC may air them this season. It doesn't look like the show will be renewed but it's NOT officially cancelled yet. Just check with ABC.

I AM SO SAD, THERE IS SO MANY BAD SHOWS ON TV. NOW THAT ABC HAD PROBLEMS WITH CABLEVISION, DON'T PULL A GOOD SHOW LIKE FORGOTTEN OFF TV. I WATCH FORGOTTEN AND TAPE GOOD WIFE. THAT IS MY FAVORITE NIGHT OF THE WEEK. I LOVE FORGOTTEN, THE ACTING IS EXCELLENT ON THAT SHOW, IT IS SO NATURAL. PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR THINKING OF CANCELLING THIS SHOW. I AM 52 YEARS OLD AND THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF NEW SHOWS THAT I WISH YOU WOULD TAKE OFF, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN. THEY ALWAYS CANCEL A GOOD SHOW, WHY NOT WATCH FORGOTTEN AND SEE THE OTHER SHOWS AND REALIZE THAT WHEN A GOOD SHOW LIKE FORGOTTEN COMES ON AIR. YOU NEED NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THE RATINGS BECAUSE SMART PEOPLE KNOW WHAT IS GOOD AND NOT. PLEASE PUT THIS SHOW ON, MY MOTHER IS SO DISAPPOINTED THAT SHE IS GOING TO STOP WATCHING ABC. SO COME ON PUT THIS SHOW BACK ON SO WE CAN ENJOY TV AGAIN. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

I definitely will not watch ABC again if they cancel The Forgotten. I love the cast and story line. When I miss an episode, I watch it online. Does that mean I do not count? Since I began watching The Forgotten, I find myself looking at what else ABC has to offer. If it is canceled, as I stated in the beginning of this email I will not be returning. I am tired of the inferior junk playing season after season while something original and engaging is canceled. My friends and I laughed at people getting together to watch Friends every week, but that is exactly what we do for The Forgotten. I hope ABC changes its mind, or Forgotten is picked up by a wiser network, (USA or TNT?) interested in developing long term relationships with their viewers by giving great shows a chance to develop a greater following. You pulled me away from only looking at cable for entertainment, don't send me back!

What some networks fail to remember is that some people have DVR's. We can't help it if two or three of our favorite shows come on at the same time on different networks. Just because I tape one or two and watch the other, doesn't mean I like one more then the other. The Neilsons and the networks need to update their ratings with the new technology we have to watch shows including through the internet too. People are watching the shows just through different venues.

Loved this show! I hope a cable network or another network picks it up (like what happened to Southland). The Forgotten was something new on TV, it was just given a horrible time slot. That is ABC's fault. Move it to a network that cares and it will probably do much better.

The Forgotten was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. It's about time ABC put on a show on that shows that people have compasion for one another. The show had great actors and a great plot and showed that people care about the Jane and John Does who are forgotten and lost to their families. Made me interested in voluntering for that orginazion.
It's a shame that a show with good charactor and a good feeling would cancel it to put on a nonsence show like Flash Forward. Stupid show...and just like every other show on..

While the cast was great the storylines were not realistic. They were predictable or too out of the box. I even predicted the outcomes on many episodes before it was solved and had a strong feeling it would be ultimately canceled- i thought it was NOT original and tried being like CSI but on cold cases-i blame it on the writers not ABC

As soon as I saw that Christian Slater's character found his daughter I knew this would be the last episode and I was extremely disappointed. I thought this was an amazing show, and actually felt it was on the up an up with the addition of smokin Elisha Cuthbert. Being a huge LOST fan I was happy that ABC had produced a great show to take the time slot after LOST. It makes me wonder if it has something to do with Christian Slater himself. I remember the show "My Own Worst Enemy" from a few years ago. I loved that show too and was very upset and confused when it had been canceled because I thought it was a great show as well. Anyways, I hope the ABC brass pull their heads out of their arse and bring The Forgotten back or even another network picks it up.

I am beginning to think any show getting on ABC is doomed to an early cancelation. "The Forgotten" was a great show, so was "Women's Murder Club" - also axed after one season. ABC is not alone - look at NBC with "Life". All great shows that were never given a chance to succeed. People need to quit altogether watching the reality drivel that is cheap to produce and boring to watch - unfortunately profitable for the networks.

This was a quality show in a sea of garbage. I guess I am going to have to stand by my original statement that the only networks with real, decent, programming are USA and TNT.

If I wanted to watch a bunch of ignorant tramps try to sleep with some guy who he isn't then I would go to any bar in anytown, usa. I sure as hell would not watch it on TV. Execs wise up and stop dumping scripted shows because they cost too much. These stupid reality shows are made up of tramps, sleeze bags and the dregs of society.

It was one of my favorite shows next to Dancing.
One of the problems you may have had is that one of the episodes started with a very racy prostitue in a motel room with a young man. If I hadn't been a fan of the show, I would have turned it immediately. We need more shows that are family oriented.

I am so disappointed about the cancellation of The Forgotten. Most of the time I do not enjoy big screen stars in TV series, but Christen Slater was great in this series. I began watching it because of his being in it and was impressed with the caring level of approach used in the series with each story. It just seems that if a show doesn't get phenominal response for a few weeks, it isn't given a chance. Please bring it back.
