Is David Letterman Losing Advertisers?
And the first domino has officially fallen...or maybe it hasn't.
There are conflicting reports as to whether Olive Garden is no longer in bed with comedian David Letterman. An MSN.com article claims that the family restaurant chain has pulled their ads from the "Late Show" program.
Here is an excerpt from the article:
"We apologize that Mr. Letterman's mistake, which was not consistent with our standards and values, left you with a bad impression of Olive Garden," Sherri Bruen, the company's guest relations manager, writes in an email to a Letterman critic.
Today, however, a New York Times piece claims that this report is erroneous, stating, "The Olive Garden restaurant chain may not have been happy with David Letterman’s jokes about Gov. Sarah Palin and her family, but no order was issued to pull commercials from Mr. Letterman’s show...."
It seems that Conservative radio host John Ziegler has compiled a list of the "Late Show's" advertisers, and has posted them on his website firedavidletterman.com. On that site, Ziegler claims that not only has Olive Garden pulled its ads, but that Southwest Airlines has done the same, as well.
In fact, here is Ziegler's list of the top ten advertisers his group is targeting:
1. Southwest Airlines has STOPPED advertising
2. Embassy Suites has STOPPED advertising
3. Hellman's has STOPPED advertising
4. Olive Garden NO LONGER advertising but MAY RESUME
5. Johnson & Johnson STILL advertising
6. Kellogg's STILL advertising
7. Verizon STILL advertising
8. Sears STILL advertising
9. All-State STILL advertising
10. Macy's STILL advertising
Whatever the case, it seems that this storyline has legs and refuses to go away. And while the cause may be somewhat understandable, you do have to wonder what these people who who support Letterman's firing are thinking. Their cries would be heard and respected more if they focused their energy into getting a female comedian hired for a late night talk show rather than attempting to get a male comedian (Letterman) fired.

I applaud and company who pulls their ads from the Letterman Show. We need to hit people like him in the pocketbook. I will support to my fullest any company who withstands the liberal journalism of this country and pulls their adds.
Okay Daniel-First of all Olive Garden did not pull their ads, they simply expired.Second of all David Letterman is a late night talk show host who makes fun of everything-It's called freedom of speech.
Good, if they pull their ads, we will resume eating at Olive Garden, If not, we will eat out elewhere. And, the pic of Dave l WITH the big cigar, really reminds us of another movie star, Lassie taking a crap.
I made a copy of all Letterman's sponsors and will henceforth no longer patronize any of them, and will advise all my friends and associates to do likewise. Even though I am a center Democrat, I am simply getting fed up with the far left media gleefully riding roughshod over anyone they please without consequence, but then, following their exalted leader's example, whining and crying when somebody mildly disagrees with them. Freedom of speech carries some responsibility. It does not mean the right to be crude, rude and obscene.
Olive Garden did not pull their ads. The conspiracy is over. Sorry....
Since when is a comedian part of the liberal or any other bias of media????
It was a joke in poor taste, said in mistake, and apoligized for, let it go already. If this is the best the conservative idiots have to complain about I would say the world is in interesting shape right now.
It's off limits if you are the target and you're black, and it's out of bounds if you are a Republican saying anything about anyone a Dem agrees with politically. You only see the N.O.W. getting outraged when it's a Dem woman.
I will make a copy of all Letterman's sponsors who pull their adds and will henceforth no longer patronize any of them, and will advise all my friends and associates to do likewise. Because I am tired of the sponsors bending over for all the cry babies who need to grow up and turn the other cheek.
I will make a point to BUY EVERYTHING advertised during the Late Show with David Letterman. So will all my friends and family. Happily. Will also make a point to cease my business from any company who pulls ads because of jokes told during a monologue from a comic. I have no patience for stuffy, uptight self righteous people who can't take a joke.
