The William Hung audition
He still has a popular fan website, several albums available on iTunes, and a reputation that seems to never fade away, no matter how much it wants to. Unfortunately, he is William Hung, and he will never be known for his intelligence.
The story begins with his initial embarrassing performance on American Idol Season 3, in which Hung was able to justify his performance by saying that he "did his best and has no regrets at all." He was considered an inspiration for about two minutes, and then it just lost control.
A cult following quickly developed, and three albums later (four on iTunes if you consider the We Are the Champions EP) his glorified karaoke recordings are still selling. In addition to "She Bangs," the song that originally made him famous, other top sellers include "YMCA," "I Believe I Can Fly," and "Hotel California." Every song butchered with his complete lack of ability to sing.
When people buy his music just because he is said to be "hilarious" or "the funniest guy in the world," it's really just a mocking of his thick accent, which only sounds funny to those who have no sense of common decency. He now takes pride in that he is a running gag, and it's disgusting.
American Idol did the right thing this year by cutting back on the amount of "bad" singers that got attention. Hopefully there will be no more repeats of this travesty in later seasons.

Leave the little guy alone...He's the only person to ever try out that made me smile.
Don't hate him because America saw something special about him.
