On Friday, Jay Leno taped his final show as host of “The Tonight Show. ” After 17 years of hosting “The Tonight Show”, Jay Leno is saying goodbye to late night TV. In what has been a tradition among the hosts of the show, Leno passed the torch to his successor and final guest Conan O’Brien. Leno’s last show wasn’t a teary-eyed event, in fact besides a segment looking back at the best of “The Tonight Show’s” signature segment called “Jay Walking”, the show was pretty much the same as the rest of the 3, 774 other episodes Leno has hosted.
Leno thanked his viewers for sticking around for 17 years. The departing host jokingly said "I'm going to be going to a secluded spot where no one can find me, NBC prime time." Leno is referring to his new show on NBC that will debut on the network’s fall schedule weekdays at 10 p.m. It’s a move that has sent shockwaves through Hollywood. NBC could be pioneering a new concept in primetime television if successful. The reviews are not optimistic for NBC’s strategy. We’ll just have to watch and see how things unfold for Leno and NBC.
Tonight will be Conan O’Brien first day as host of “The Tonight Show.” O’Brien becomes the fifth host of “The Tonight Show, ” following such greats as Steve Allen, Jack Parr and Johnny Carson. Along with getting a new desk, O’Brien will be getting a brand new, state of the art studio. O’Brien’s “Tonight Show” will no longer be filmed at NBC studios in Burbank, its now located at Universal Studios.
There are very few details about what will happen on tonight’s show. We do know that Conan O’Brien’s first guest will be actor Will Ferrell and Pearl Jam will be performing. After a nearly 9 year absence, Andy Richter will return as O’Brien’s announcer. You can catch Conan O'Brien's first show tonight at 11:35 pm on NBC/WXIA-TV.
