Public safety officers ghost hunt, have "experiences"

Memphis Paranormal Investigations teaches people to ghost hunt. The group also provides pre-sale home inspections for spirits, spirit removal, and investigations of any ghost or haunted-type experiences. This is known as a “paranormal investigation.” The not-for-profit group strongly suggests background checks on contractors and provides resources; they complete background checks on their own employees/volunteers. They also do volunteer work, cleaning up cemeteries and holding toy drives during the holidays. And they have taught police departments to ghost hunt. “The officers,” says Michael Einspanjer of Memphis Paranormal Investigations, “had experiences” during the hunts. This means the officers saw, heard, felt, or smelled something from the spirit world.

The group “has a good rapport with police departments,” says Einspanjer. Prior to entering cemeteries or abandoned buildings, Memphis Paranormal Investigations will contact the local police department to receive permission. They will never break the law to obtain entry into a building or place, and the group’s size, “should be about 10 to 15 people, which keeps it manageable.”  There are strict guidelines to behavior and demeanor. Alcohol use is definitely prohibited; respectful behavior mandatory. Some people come in with prior experiences; some people come in skeptical.  On March 19, a class of about 10 went into the Bartlett/Ellendale Cemetery, established in the 1800’s … and came out with some amazing stories.

It was a perfect night for a ghost hunt: just warm enough, windless, and the rain had yet to fall. After receiving instructions, the group fanned out with the equipment. Firefighter Chris Landreau and his wife, Jamie, went on this ghost hunt to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. Driving from Eclectic, Alabama, they now found themselves standing in a graveyard surrounded by ancient tombstones. Clasping hands, enveloped in the night, Chris called out softly, “make yourself known if you are here…” Jamie, who was skeptical until then, suddenly showed her camera to Chris: the battery, once charged full, now drained quickly. Chris called out, “You can visit with us.” That was when Jamie felt, “someone – or something – lift up and push my hair back away from my shoulders on one side. It was not the wind- there was no wind. It only happened on one side.” Jamie is “a believer now.”

A private investigator in the group reported, “I saw another member of our group walking through some tombstones. I turned to ask my friend, ‘why are they wearing that heavy coat?’ Then they vanished and I realized – it was not a member of our group.”

Another group member, who once worked in the medical industry, heard what sounded like two small animals running in the leaves behind her as she walked alone through the “black section” of the cemetery. “Probably the wind,” she surmised. “I turned to see what kind of animals they were, then my brain went into gear: there were no animals out this late, I didn’t see any animals out, and there was no wind. That sound was only in a small (area) and didn’t last long.”  Later she wondered, “I kept thinking, ‘when are they going to remove the fence’ (that segregates the cemetery)?” (See notes in the slideshow).

Paranormal Investigations is a form of investigation; perhaps it may assist public safety officers. Some people believe; others do not. Memphis Paranormal Investigations can assist both groups.
