Last year, Gear West Bike and Tri held a few small "Splash and Dash" events. This year, they're trying something new. This year, get ready for "Mosquito Man!"
Who: Anyone with a bike and shoes.
What: A unique run, bike, run, bike, run duathlon
Where: Orono School Complex: Wayzata Blvd & Old Crystal Bay Rd
When: Saturday Sept 4 (Labor Day) 8:00 AM
Why: A professional run, chipped time multisport race for $25! Why not!?
The Mosquito Man Du is a run-bike-run-bike-run event, designed solely for fun and enjoyment. Gear West Bike claims this will be a professionally produced event with as much emphasis on the fun, as the competition itself. And there will be plenty of competition.
Mosquito Man Du will have the following:
-Very low entry price ($25/person)
-chip timing
-transition racks
-safe clockwise bike route
-post race hotdogs and food
-fun giveaways!
Format: You will be racing as either a 2-Person Team Time Trial (TTT) or Individually. The run is 1.5 miles on a paved path along Old Crystal Bay road and the Orono School Grounds. It is an out and back run course. The bike course is a clockwise 8 mile loop around Long Lake and Orono.
If you are racing as a TTT, you and your teammate will do both the run and bike segments together. TTT competitors will be allowed to work together on both the bike and run with your teammate to get through the course as quickly as possible. Your team time will be when the 2nd person crosses the line.
TTT divisions: Men's, Women's, Co-ed, Significant Other, and Corporate.
Individual athletes will follow traditional triathlon rules which do not allow drafting during the bike segments of the race. Individual entry divisions are by 5 yr age groups starting with 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, etc up through 65+.
Field limited to a total of 200 participants.
Cost: $50 per 2-Person Team, $25 per individual entry.
