Running the wet Winter Carnival Half Marathon in St. Paul.
Saturday was the 25th annual Securian Half Marathon as part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Conditions were 30-35 degrees and raining. There was fear of some ice out on the course, but the roads were well maintained so there was little slipping.
The overall winner was Paul Kriegler, 26, of Minnetonka who came in with a time of 1:15:53. Kriegler was able to better his second place finish from last year to take the top spot in 2010.
The top female spot went to Melissa Gacek, 33, of White Bear Lake. Gacek finished 12th overall in a time of 1:24:12. She was the first place female at this race in 2007 as well.
Overall, there were 786 runners which was a few more than last year when it was 15 below with a 25 below windchill. However, the number of racers has been over 1,000 4 out of the 5 years prior to last year's freezing race. Proof once again that people in Minnesota will get out to enjoy ANY sort of weather in January!
I ran this race on Saturday with my camera in hand, and below are some images that I took along the way. Enjoy!
