USA Triathlon announced yesterday that Cathy Yndestad (Apple Valley, MN) is the Overall Female Triathlete of the Year for 2009, and Kevin O'Connor (Medina, MN) is the Overall Male Duathlete of the Year for 2009.  (Remember, Cathy's big news was broken right here when I interviewed her back on Jan 14.  She had just been told about it that morning!)

Yndestad, 31, made her case by winning the Elite Amateur division of the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis (for the 4th year in a row), as well as by coming in 1st in her age group (3rd overall) at the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship.  She told me that she had just learned she was going to be named Triathlete of the Year on Jan 14th, just as I was publishing an article on her off season training tips.

O'Connor, 38, earned his title of Duathlete of the year by coming in as the first amateur (6th overall) at the Apple Duathlon here in MN (a World's qualifying race).  And at the Duathlon World Championship, O'Connor was the 1st amateur, 2nd in his age group, and 9th overall.

Congratulations to these amazing Minnesotan athletes!  You can see more by going to the official press release from USA Triathlon.
