No camel toes here, but plenty of elephant trunks and jet planes and rocket underwear and other wild women's underwear fashions are the creation of Walter Van Beirendonck of Belgium.
The designer says he has been inspired for his designs by art, music, and literature, mixed with enthnic and natural influences. Perhaps being frightened by Barbar the Elephant while a small child was an inspiration for this collection called "Take a W Ride."
The guy is for real, having studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and was a part of the
British Designer Show / London in 1987 as part of ‘The Antwerp Six’ (with Dirk Van Saene, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Bikkembergs, Ann Demeulemeester and Marina Yee).
Walter Van Beirendonck is annointed by many in the press as one of the main trend-setters in men's fashion.
No mistaking his fashion designs for any others. Obviously the man has a sense of humor and uses it to make statements about the fashion world, earth, nature, and contemporary life.
Walter Van Beirendonck works in other areas besides design...
• Designing costumes for theater, ballet and film, curating expositions, designing objects,
think-thank for commercial projects and products,image-making for pop-groups,
illustrating books,designing commercial collections...
• Walter is buyer for the 'Walter'-store and co-curater for the 'Window'-gallery.
• Due to Walter's intrest in 'Cyber'-technology,W.&L.T. was the first fashionlabel, which
launched a full-CD-rom and Website, showing besides the collections, information and self-designed games.
