Using paint to highlight your pregnant belly bump (Gallery)

Creative ways to highlight your baby bump

It's summer, you're pregnant and getting kind of sick of the whole tummy rubbing scene.

Take time to have some fun with your enlarging baby bump and paint it up.

Of course you won't want to use just any paints. Here's a recipe for making paint for your pregnant belly art below, or you can buy face paints.Family Makeup Kit or Paint Yourself Wild: An Animal Face Painting Kit,

For black lines, use a black eyeliner pencil. (You might have use for other colors of eyeliner, too, depending on your design.)

Face paints are made to be used on tender young skin and promise not to stain.

Test any paint on a hidden section of your before painting up your growing belly bump.

Here's how you can make your own face paint at home!

For each color, you will need:

  • 1 teaspoon corn starch
  • 1/2 teaspoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon cold cream
  • Food coloring

Mix all of the above ingredients in a small bowl, egg cup or in a muffin pan. (Use a different container for each color.)

Don't try this yourself, unless you are an accomplished artist. Get a friend, sketch out your design, cover yourself, and get very very comfortable. (Don't forget to pee before you start the new belly paint job.)

Wear washable clothes while showing off your pregnant belly bump art and most of all - have fun. It will soon be over.

Pregnant Belly Painting is becoming very popular these days as a fun way to highlight your pregnancy. However, as a professional face and body artist, I would NOT recommend making your own using the recipe included. Cold cream is not meant to be left on your skin, and also it smears easily. Food coloring can stain skin. Quality face paints are widely available online and in some hobby stores (Make sure to ONLY use products designed for skin!) and are not very expensive. Snazaroo, Kryolan Aquacolor, Wolfe, Ben Nye, and Mehron are all excellent brands which use ingredients approved by the FDA for use on skin. Professional cosmetic "face paints" are much easier to use, dry quickly, look MUCH better, do not smudge easily, and do not stain. Websites where you can find these products (I have ordered from them, but am not affiliated with them)

Enjoy, be safe, and have fun!
