Meyers Motors is marketing their single-serving, three-wheeled Duo electric car and is using crowdsourcing to set the price.

For ever 200 orders they get before the car is launched, they will knock $1000 off the price - down to their eventual manufacturer's suggested retail price of $24,995.

Meyers Motors will be accepting orders for the Duo electric car through June 10, 2010. Reserve the Duo now for a totally refundable $250 and watch the price drop. After June 5, the final price will be set.

Why a single serving vehicle? Meyers Motors answers:

Meyers Motors calls its single-occupant vehicle a Personal Electric Vehicle for a reason. Over 91 million
(79.4%) workers drive by themselves to work each day1 and 38% of all trips taken are in a personal vehicle with a single occupant (the driver). That research, says Dana Myers, President of Myers Motors, shows that
“A person driving to work alone in an SUV is like using a jackhammer to place a nail on a freshly painted
wall to hang a painting in the living room – it’s just the wrong tool for the job.”

Although Meyers Motors currently only makes a single passenger vehicle, the DUO is a 2 passenger one. hxxp://www.myersmotors.com/im2/nmg2_gallery/interior_center.jpg

Sorry, but the Duo carries two persons.... Duo should be your first clue. The NmG vehicle only carries one person and Myers has not made any money on the product due to poor design by the original owner of the product called the Sparrow (Myer just purchase the assets of the bankrupt company and began about the task of trying to correct the long list of issues).

Okay, publicity and news articles can help promote and sell a vehicle, but the author demonstrated his ignorance by not even visiting the Myers Motors web site to see the difference between the Duo and NmG. Pointing out the unique pricing scheme used to launch the new product is helpful; the rest is just jibberish confusing the two vehicles. The base model Duo comes with a 60 mile range, with upgrades to 80 miles for an extra $2500 and to 100 mile range for an extra $5000. Air conditioning will be an option as well...
