Port Angeles, while only 17 miles from Hurricane Ridge-the most popular attraction of Olympic National Park, is also a center for Northwest arts and culture.
Ideally situated for all the Olympic Peninsula has to offer, it is easy to see why Port Angeles says it is "The Center of It All."
Port Angeles offers unique shopping, arts & culture, a wide variety of restaurants and many specialty shops for kayaking, hiking, camping, biking, fishing, scuba diving and skateboarding. In the winter months, skiing, snow shoeing and snow boarding sales and rentals are available.
There are galleries and museums in abundance. For example, Art on the Town Outdoor Sculpture Gallery where sculptures throughout the Downtown can be seen with walking tour brochures available from our merchants. Second Saturday Artwalk is a guided walking tour with participating artists every second Saturday of the month, starting at 11: a.m. at the Landing Mall atrium.
Clallam County Historical Society's Museum at the Carnegie contains a permanent exhibit on the upper level titled "Strong People, The Faces of Clallam County". The lower gallery houses temporary exhibits that are changed out every few months and cover a variety of historical subjects of interest to visitors. Their website features a museum shop online that features books by local authors as well as one-of-a-kind items created by artisans of the area.
Port Angeles Fine Arts Center & Webster's Woods Art Park contains thought-provoking exhibitions with a Northwest flavor which are imaginatively displayed in the semi-circular hilltop gallery, set against an awesome vista of marine and mountain views. Webster's Woods is a five-acre "museum without walls" featuring over 125 sculptures and site works along rustic trails in a unique sylvan setting that is a microcosm of nearby Olympic National Park. Gallery hours are Wed -Sun • 11 - 5 (Mar - Oct), 10 - 4 (Nov - Feb);. Webster's Woods open daylight hours, year round. Admission is free.
From Seattle you can get to Port Angeles by ferry, car, bus or plane. Washington State Ferries can get you to and from the Olympic Peninsula from the Seattle area. The Victoria Express and Coho Ferry provide service between Port Angeles and Victoria, B.C. Olympic Bus Lines provides transportation to and from Greater Seattle area, including ferries and airport. Kenmore Air Express offers air service between Boeing Field in Seattle and Port Angeles, with connections throughout the San Juan Islands and British Columbia. You can also choose to charter a flight with Rite Bros. Aviation for private air service.
Port Angeles is home to year-round ferry transportation to Victoria, Canada, and during the summer months, the San Juan Islands. Many of the recreational activities for which the area is famous can be enjoyed in and around this charming community. Check it out for close to home vacations.
