Scallop fest set for St. Joe in Florida's 'Forgotten Coast'

We've previously written about a great guarantee offered in the Gulf area as it struggles in the wake of the oil catastrophe. Here's another event in the region where they'd welcome your tourism dollars.

August 6-8, boosters in the Port St. Joseph area of Florida (in the Northwestern Panhandle) want you to know that the Florida Scallop & Music Festival has been revived.

The annual celebration, formerly known as St. Joseph Bay Scallop Festival, features music, the ocean's bounty, arts and crafts, all on the waterfront for the weekend at Shipyard Cove.

A Patron Dinner features feasts from James Beard award-winning chefs Louis Osteen, Martha Foose and others.

We're told there are plenty of scallops for festival goers and much merchandise and music with a local flavor.

From San Diego, you can use the link to Kayak on this page to compare the best ways to get from here to the closest airport of Panama City. It can be done for two for under $700 as of this writing.
