GoDaddy.com founder proud owner of Cher's Hawaii mansion

That unidentified buyer who dropped $8.72 million on Cher's Balinese-style home on the Big Island of Hawaii is now known.

The results of the competitive bidding by Concierge Auction were released in January.

Bob Parsons, founder and CEO of Web-hosting company GoDaddy.com has unmasked himself.

Originally, the purchase of a beautiful vacation home in the exclusive Four Seasons' Hualalai Resort was presented in these musings in December 2009 as a last-minute holiday gift suggestion. (Yeesh, a penny each from 8.72 million Netizens as a token of appreciation for your Travel Examiner. Was that too much to ask?)

Parson's company is known for its none-too-subtle TV ads touting Danica Patrick's, uh, the site's assets --  Web hosting, domain name registration and the ever-racy SSL certificates.

"We never thought in a million years that we'd end up being the buyer," he's quoted as saying in the Wall Street Journal.

Word from WSJ is that Cher bought the 3/4 acre parcel in 2004 for $2.9. She never lived there, but had a hand in the design and building.

Mere mortals must content themselves with round flight out of San Diego north of $600, according to a quick spin on the Expedia.com Web site, then shelling out somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,200 a night  for a  stay at a Hualalai vacation rental.

That wouldn't even begin covering the propery taxes on Paron's  8,800-square-foot home flanked by four bungalows and Danica Patrick showing her tattoo,  but you get the idea.
