Whether you are sticking close to home or traveling across the country, there's an online tool that can help you get out the door. No, it won't pack for you. Instead, NatureFind will map the outdoor activities, events and locations in the immediate area to help you plan your next excursion.
"We know that children benefit from the free feeling the get surrounded by a world of green," said Rebecca Garland, Senior Director of the National Wildlife Federation's (NWF) Be Out There campaign. "NatureFind makes it easy to find those places where you can connect with the sights and sounds of nature."
NatureFind (www.nwf.org/naturefind/) users can search by city, state or zip code. They can also specify how far they want to travel (up to 500 miles) from their home, campsite or hotel. Users can also search by the name of the place they wish to visit. NatureFind also provides information on planned special events at a given location.
For instance, in the Phoenix metro area, NatureFind identifies a number city parks, zoos, local parks, botanical gardens and events within 50 miles. Along with driving directions and event calendars, NatureFind gives users a brief overview of each location to help them determine the perfect place for a picnic or moonlight stroll.
NatureFind is developed in conjunction with the NWF's Be Out There campaign, which encourages families across America to get outside on a daily basis for their mental and physical health. It's a great tool to help you connect with fresh air, green spaces, stars and the benefits of being outdoors.
