Director Roman Polanski, awaiting his move from cell to Swiss chalet
November 27, 2007: After raising the cash for the required $4.5 million bail yesterday (November 26) by putting up his Paris flat for security, jailed movie maestro Roman Polanski is reportedly being released under house arrest on or around Monday, November 30.
His destination: The director's deluxe Gstaad digs.
Celebrated France-born show business empresario Polanski allegedly owns a fancy chalet in the rarified Swiss enclave, making his move from a small cell to this luxury manse a major coup for the fugitive -- at least for now.
Trading his two-month stay in a tiny one-room jail space for a roomy, very chic architectural retreat worth $1.6 million, Roman Polanski succumbed to quite stringent requirements by the Swiss government.
The provisions?
Surrender of Polanski's passport, the promise to wear an electronic bracelet, and the reality that he will not be allowed to leave his new location for any reason at any time after he arrives
All this doesn't seem like such a bad deal for the 76-year-old Polanski, whose chalet, said to formerly be owned by Dame Elizabeth Taylor and dubbed Milky Way, overlooks the beauty of Gstaad's soon-to-be snowcapped Alpine peaks.
Meanwhile, the swanky yet quiet Swiss town to which the Rosemary's Baby director is relegated once released from custody is at Polanski's beck and call. All manner of stores and services in Gstaad are said to be ready to hand deliver whatever goodies this quality conscious celebrity wants or needs.

Meanwhile, take a virtual trip by way of AP shots taken yesterday (November 26) of Polanski's Milky Way chalet, a home now more famous than ever even in such a famous place as the celebrated Swiss ski resort town of Gstaad. And, since Polanski's ultimate fate still remains up in the air, please stay tuned.

What a beautiful place this is. I wonder what the outcome of all this will be. I hope those so eager to speak for him as a filmmaker, great though he is, thinks about the reality of this case.
