Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (in a very revealing dress) walk the red carpet in Cannes
With the vision of Angelina Jolie's nude-colored Versace Atelier dress still on the minds of fashion watchers and fans everywhere, international travelers are scratching their collective heads while they pack their bags for France.
Should this beautiful actress have been more covered up in Cannes at such a formal event as partner Brad Pitt's movie debut at the Cote d'Azur's annual film festival?
Or, is it OK, as she moved forward on the red carpet -- and hence the world stage -- that her slit-up-to-here sheer frock started to separate from her body, thus showing us oh-so-much more of her perfect physique?
Many pundits say wear what you want in the South of France (land of the topless swimsuit), but some say select a more demure choice when it comes to dressier occasions so as not to offend.
I say err on the side of being classy.
That said, following are some wearing ways to ensure that you dressing appropriately -- and with acceptance -- in various nations around the world:
+ In Austria, try to get an entree to the Opera. Better yet, book a seat for opening night if you can but remember to pack a proper tuxedo or an elegant black cocktail dress should this be the case.
+ Dressing spiffy or upscale in Greece will not put you a cut above the rest. In fact, what you wear will probably have little or nothing to do with how you are perceived, especially with regard to professional status.
+ Although accessories like ascots or silk scarfs may seem like excessive things to pack, do so if you are headed for Turkey since dressing for success there often means perking up your outfit with special effects.
+ Women should skip low cut necklines, ostentatious jewelry and neon colors when putting on clothes for a meeting in Japan. Men should invest in a bunch of new socks since taking off your shoes in the Land of the Rising Sun is a common practice.
+ A personal experience with plunging necklines: I traveled with a women in Shanghai. She's a pretty girl with plenty of great assets, but showing off her cleavage every chance she got was enough to make me want to shrink away from the scene when we went out on the town. In China -- and many other countries around the world -- it is NOT appropriate to prance around in public with her your breasts on show.
+ Singapore is the place to dress not only for comfort (the tropical climate dictates lightweight fabrics like cotton so forget about packing any silk) but also, if you like, for your ethnicity. Like the US, this Asian nation is a melting pot of diverse cultures and so it is not uncommon to see others in their native dress. That said, Western wear is all the rage in Singapore.
+ In India, if you are a woman wanting to don a sari, don't do so without asking a local how to wear it. The draping is done according to your social and economic status and also with regard to your religious affiliation.

Angelina was wonderful, in fact perfect. Those events were made for dresses like that and dresses like that was made for Cannes and Angelina. Surely, Brad was proud. He looked like it. Besides, Cannes is a party!
Leave people alone...always startin' some negativity about B&A.
All you reporters try to gain fame off of them.
She looks like a giant walking condom. She has the body for the dress, but not the skin tone. I'd love to see it on somebody like Jennifer Lopez or Halle Berry. Or even Jennifer Aniston with a tan. It's wasted on Angelina, totally washes her out.
She looks so cheap and vulgar in this dress - well very much what she really is actually. The slit that high is so so out of place, although she has no sense in dressing up really.
her skin tone is perfect. who the hell wants to be orange? Brad is orange. How about we talk about the horrible suit with ascot Pitt had on earlier in the day? he looked like an idiot
Stunning and elegant but, in my opinion a touch too revealing and sheer. I love that Angie doesn't alter the exotic porcelain complexion mother nature bestowed on her. Pale Power! She's a goddess and all who disparage her are jealous.
She looks like the attention whore she is. She just couldn't let Brad have his moment, could she? She had to show him up by showing up naked. No wonder he looks so disgusted in most of the pics. No matter what he says for publication, she's an embarassment.
Agreed. She looks like a giant condom. Horrible color choice.
I would love to see her in a bikini - my guess is she ain't all that with those granny legs.
