The brash, upgraded Tropicana has announced a new world's amateur "No Limit Texas Hold 'Em" championship for next year.
As part of its multi-million-dollar renovation, The Trop is partnering with the World Poker Tour Amateur Poker League (WPTAPL) to sponsor the April 20-23, 2011 event.
More than $160,000 in cash and prizes -- cruises and more -- ensure this is "something never seen before" by amateur poker players, resort officials said in a news release.
"It's an exceptional combination of best-in-class brands, and Tropicana is honored to be considered home to the thousands of WPTAPL members," said Tom McCartney, Tropicana president and chief operating officer.
WPTAPL executive vice-president Shane McCullough added, "This will be the largest event of its kind."
The league is a licensee of the World Poker Tour, and hosts free amateur poker events across the U.S. and Canada. It will soon launch big poker events in the U.K.
As a sign of the popularity of No Limit Hold 'Em, the WPTAPL sanctions more than 30,000 tournaments a year.

And if you haven't seen the new-and-improved Trop yet, go now. The revamped pool and playing areas are only part of a $165 million reno that includes Brad Garrett's Comedy Club, Miami Beach-style rooms, new restaurants, and a return to the tropics.
