The Humpback Whale Scenic Lookout On Maui, Hawaii

Looking for the best place to see Humpback Whales?  Want to be up on a cliff for a good view of the Humpback Whales?

One of the best places to see Hawaii's Humpback Whales during whale season from mid-December to the end of April, is at the Scenic Lookout Point along Hwy. 30 on the oceanside of the highway.  It's a large parking area that is located several miles from the Maalaea Harbor (before the tunnel) as you drive toward Lahaina and the western side of Maui.

Drive past the parking area (which will be on your left-hand-side) and there will be an entrance to the parking lot for the Scenic Lookout.  There are several signs preparing you for the Scenic Lookout Point (see above) and the parking area is easy to find in daylight.  The parking area is large enough for quite a few cars and there is almost always someone leaving and creating an open space for your vehicle.

The Scenic Lookout Point is an elevated cliff looking  toward the Hawaiian island of Kahoolawe.  You can also see to your far left, the southwest area of Maui consisting of Kihei, Wailea, and Makena.  There are several large plaques at this location that will explain and describe the nature of Hawaii's Humpback Whales.  During whale season, there is also a volunteer on-site from The Pacific Whale Foundation (www.pacificwhale.org)  to answer any questions you might have about Humpback Whales.  Enjoy The View!
