If you are going to be in Las Vegas any time soon and would like to take a break from the Strip and the neon lights  and have a bit of an adventure, you might want to take a side trip to the Black Canyon and experience a rafting float trip.

Black Canyon  The Black Canyon, located a short distance from the Las Vegas Strip in Lake Mead National Recreation Area, was formed by the Colorado River. It lies just below Hoover Dam where canyon walls rise nearly 2000 feet. The surrounding scenery includes sheer cliffs of multi-colored rocks, sandy beaches and secluded coves.

Black Canyon/ Willow Beach River Adventures   Rafting -float trips are offered daily aboard large, motor-assisted rafts from the base of Hoover Dam, down the Colorado River, ending on the Arizona side at Willow Beach. This is not a white water rafting trip, but a gentle float trip down several miles of the Colorado River.

Experienced guides will share the history of the area as you float down the river. Among some of the animals you might see along the way are Big Horn Sheep scampering along the high canyon walls, osprey and Great Blue herons. The rafts will stop along the shore to give passengers a chance to swim or play in the cool waters and to eat lunch. A box lunch is provided.

The ending point of the raft trip is the Willow Beach Marina, which offers  rental options for a multitude of activities  including fishing, boating canoeing, kayaking and a picnic area. Those activities are not included in the tour package and cost is additional.

Black Canyon/ Willow Beach River Adventures will provide round trip transportation from various Las Vegas Hotels. If you have your own car you can meet at the check-in desk at the Hacienda Hotel and Casino on Highway 93 outside Boulder City. You will then be taken to your raft by bus.

The raft trip adventure begins each day at 9:30 a.m. at the check-in desk at the Hacienda Hotel and Casino. Cost of the raft trip if you drive yourself to the Hacienda is $85.95 for adults 16 years and older. The cost for children 13-15 years is $82.95 and children ages 5-12 years is $53.95. If you choose the round-trip transportation from your Las Vegas hotel, the cost is an additional $44 per person. To make reservations by phone, call 800-455-3490.
