Enjoy a variety of outdoor activities at Cape Cod's Nickerson State Park
Nickerson State Park in Brewster is worth a visit at any time of the year, whether for swimming and camping, hiking and biking or just spending a few hours picnicking or fishing. The Cape’s mild winters mean that biking and hiking trails tend to be open most of the year. And the ponds may not freeze over in winter, allowing fishing and boating for much of the year.
Nickerson State Park’s bike path connects to the Cape Cod Rail Trail
Within the park itself is an eight mile paved bike path, which can also take you to the Cape Cod Rail Trail for an additional 22 miles of biking fun. If you didn’t bring a bike, there is a seasonal bike rental kiosk just down the road from the park entrance, in the public parking lot for the Rail Trail.
There are unpaved trails and roads as well, some of which are open to mountain biking. When there is enough snow on the ground (this doesn’t happen every year on Cape Cod) Middle Trail becomes a ski trail for as long as the snow lasts.
Swimming, boating, kayaking and fishing at Nickerson State Park
There are four ponds in Nickerson State Park. A boat ramp allows access into Big and Little Cliff Ponds for kayaks and small boats. Big Cliff Pond has several beaches, some with easy access from picnic areas. If salt water is your preference, it is a short walk or bike ride to Cape Cod Bay.
Campingon Cape Cod at Nickerson State Park
Camping season at Nickerson State Park lasts from mid-April to late October. There are no hook-ups but this far from primitive camping. There are over 420 sites with flush toilets, showers, picnic tables and fireplaces. 6 accessible yurts and two group camping sites add complete the camping options.
Situated mid-Cape, Nickerson State Park is a short drive from the Cape Cod National Seashore on the Outer Cape or the historic towns of Sandwich and Falmouth on the Inner Cape. Emerald Hollow Farm offers guided horseback trail rides nearby as well.

I checked out the slideshow, and the yurts look pretty neat. This would be a nice area for the first time camper.
It looks so serene and peaceful.
Another lovely place on the Cape. There are so many places the average visitor never hears about.
