Real ID Act and its damaging effect on domestic US travel - a resource page

The purpose of the Real ID is to make driver’s licenses a more secure form of identification.
However, if a state didn’t conform to ALL the requirements spelled out in the bill, starting January 1st, 2010, residents would not be allowed to us its driver's licenses as ID for domestic flights.

Yes, the DHS extended the deadline "...In order to ensure that the millions of Americans traveling this holiday season are not disrupted, DHS is extending the Dec. 31 REAL ID material compliance deadline.
Will the Department of Homeland Security delay implementation of the Real ID Act? "...Should Congress not act before it adjourns this year, DHS has planned for contingencies related to REAL ID implementation, including extending the deadline as a last resort."
Department of Homeland Security boss, Janet Napolitano, questioned by Congress on December 2nd. "...Napolitano wants Pass ID to be approved and is using the threat of paralyzing travel through the entire United States of America in order to encourage the Senate to move the Pass ID bill along."

I still can't believe this is not all over the mainstream media. They must be confident there will be an extension or there would be more info (I would hope). The security lines cannot handle thousands without "proper" ID. Again, thanks for keeping us up to date on this important issue.
